Voici le compte rendu de Jean-Daniel Poirier et les photos prises par Vicky Fillion lors du spectacle de Born Of Osiris présenté par Extensive Enterprise au Théâtre Fairmount de Montréal le 26 août 2023 et qui mettait également à l’affiche Upon A Burning Body, Traitors et Deadwood.

Deadwood
Le groupe Deadwood de Montréal a la tâche ardue d’entamer les hostilités de ce grosse soirée deathcore. Malgré l’espace plutôt restreint sur la scène, le groupe a été capable de nous offrir une solide prestation. Ils ont une présence indéniable sur scène, surtout le bassiste et le chanteur qui ne s’arrêtent jamais de bouger. Le groupe nous livre un deathcore plutôt pesant et rythmé parsemé d’électro. Le fit avec le headliner était là sans aucun doute. C’est plutôt violent comme musique. Il n’a fallu que deux chansons pour que le pit démarre. Pour réchauffer l’audience, Deadwood a très bien assuré. Ils sont à suivre de près, car ils ont le vent dans les voiles pour décoller en grand. Mention spéciale au bassiste qui était rendu sur le bar, officiellement, la scène était trop petite pour lui.
Traitors
Traitors est un groupe de Tampa Bay qui a beacoup à offrir. Mon seul bémol sur le groupe est que le guitariste portait un gilet du Lightning de Tampa Bay, donc le groupe part avec une prise, était-ce une provocation volontaire en étant à Montréal? Que cela ne tienne, leur musique nous a fait oublier cet écart du guitariste très rapidement.
Le groupe nous offre du gros core pesant et très précis. Les breakdowns sont au rendez-vous pour les gens qui aiment le style, c’est parfait. À ma grande surprise, un élément du core que j’aime moins n’est pas trop présent avec le groupe, c’est-à-dire que le chanteur utilise de belles rythmies de voix. Ce qui rends les patterns de voix beaucoup moins linéaires. Le chanteur a d’ailleurs une très bonne voix. Les musiciens ont une bonne présence sur scène. Le public apprécie énormément. J’ai vu du bodysurfing et un grand moshpit tout au long de la prestation. Le plancher « bounce » tellement les gens sautent. J’espère que la trampoline du Théâtre Fairmount va survivre à la soirée.
Upon A Burning Body
Ouff que dire de ce groupe ? Ce sont probablement eux qui remplissent les batteries énergizer et non l’inverse. Le groupe est tout sauf statique sur scène. Ils sont en feu, ils sont tight et professionnels. La seule chanson que je connais du groupe est All Pride No Pain et ce fut la troisième chanson de leur setlist. Ils savent comment animer la foule
Plus la soirée avance, plus je souhaite que les ingénieurs qui ont construit le Théâtre Fairmont ont bien fait leur travail. Le groupe a des bons riffs accrocheurs et la précision est au rendez-vous. Le batteur est tout simplement incroyable. Le chanteur m’a même pris par surprise en effectuant une voix clean. Upon A Burning Body a donné toute une performance et ils ont solidement volé la vedette de cette soirée deathcore par leur intensité et cela, malgré des problème technque au niveau de la voix, par moment, nous la perdions complètement dans le mix. Il n’y avait pas une seconde où la foule ne bougeait pas, un set totalement réussi pour Upon A Burning Body. VIvement leur retour en headliner.
Born Of Osiris
Born of Osiris, un groupe de Palatine, Illinois, est ici ce soir pour nous ramasser et ils ont bien réussi leur coup. C’est avec leurs riffs ultra-rythmés et synchronisés qu’ils nous en mettent plein la vue. Le visuel derrière le groupe est vraiment intéressant. Il y a toujours quelque chose de projeter sur l’écran qui attire l’attention. Musicalement, c’est réellement bien construit, il y a beaucoup de breakdowns, mais aussi des riffs extrêmement mélodiques. Ils ont une bonne prestance sur scène. Il y a toujours un petit quelque chose qui rend la musique intéressante, soitt une orchestration qui remplit un breakdown, ou encore une orchestration qui vient complémenter un refrain pour y ajouter un petit quelque chose.
Les solos de guitares sont réellement bons également. Ce que j’ai réellement aimé de ce groupe, c’est qu’il n’y a pas de monotonie. Il y a du travail dans leurs compositions et encore une fois, le plancher du Fairmount a été mis à l’épreuve. À un point tel que j’aurais peur de visiter ce qui se trouve en dessous, ahaha. Au niveaux des voix, le mix des deux chanteurs est bien dosé et cela ajoute beaucoup au groupe!
Born of Osiris est un groupe de calibre qui devrait jouer dans de plus grosses salles. Merci à Extensive Enterprise et tous les groupes présents pour cette bonne leçon de deathcore!

Deadwood
Montreal band Deadwood have the daunting task of kicking off the hostilities of this big deathcore party. Despite the rather restricted space on the stage, the band was able to give us a solid performance. They have an undeniable presence on stage, especially the bass player and the singer who never stop moving. The group gives us a rather heavy and rhythmic deathcore sprinkled with electro. The fit with the headliner was there without a doubt. It’s rather violent as music. It only took two songs for the pit to start. To warm up the audience, Deadwood provided very well. They are to be followed closely, because they have the wind in their sails to take off in a big way. Special mention to the bassist who went on the bar, officially, the stage was too small for him.
Traitors
Traitors is a Tampa Bay band that has a lot to offer. My only complaint about the band is that the guitarist wore a Tampa Bay Lightning vest of Nikita Kucherov, so the band left with a take, was it a deliberate provocation being in Montreal? Never mind, their music made us forget this gap of the guitarist very quickly.
The band offers us big, heavy and very precise cores. The breakdowns are there for people who like the style, it’s perfect. To my great surprise, an element of the core that I like less is not too present with the group, that is to say that the singer uses beautiful vocal rhythms. This makes voice patterns much less linear. The singer also has a very good voice. The musicians have a good stage presence. The public greatly appreciates it. I saw bodysurfing and a large moshpit throughout the performance. The floor « bounces » so much people jump. I hope the Fairmount Theater trampoline will survive the evening.
Upon A Burning Body
What about this group? They are probably the ones that fill the energizer batteries and not the other way around. The group is anything but static on stage. They are on fire, they are tight and professional. The only song I know of the band is All Pride No Pain and it was the third song on their setlist. They know how to animate the crowd
As the evening progresses, the more I wish the engineers who built the Fairmount Theater did their job well. The group has good catchy riffs and the precision is there. The drummer is just amazing. The singer even took me by surprise by performing a clean voice. Upon A Burning Body gave quite a performance and they solidly stole the star of this deathcore evening by their intensity and that, despite technical problems with the voice, at times, we completely lost it in the mix. There was not a second where the crowd was not moving, a totally successful set for Upon A Burning Body. I can’t wait for them to come back as headliners.
Born Of Osiris
Born of Osiris, a band from Palatine, Illinois, are here tonight to pick us up and they pulled it off pretty well. It is with their ultra-rhythmic and synchronized riffs that they amazed us. The visual behind the band is really interesting. There is always something projecting on the screen that catches the eye. Musically, it’s really well built, there is a lot of breakdowns, but also extremely melodic riffs. They have a good presence on stage. There is always a little something that makes the music interesting, either an orchestration that fills a breakdown, or an orchestration that complements a chorus to add a little something to it.
The guitar solos are really good too. What I really liked about this band is that there is no monotony. There is work in their compositions and once again the floor of the Fairmount was put to the test. So much so that I would be afraid to visit what is below, ahaha. In terms of voices, the mix of the two singers is well balanced and that adds a lot to the group!
Born of Osiris is a band that should play in bigger venues. Thanks to Extensive Enterprise and all the bands present for this good deathcore lesson!
