Formed in 2007, Montreal based original band [EVERTRAPPED] brings Melodic Death Metal to a new level of brutality. All five current members clear a warpath to the stage with killer technical metal riffs and epic breakthrough choruses. Guitarists Frederick Dupuis and Vincent Benoit hammer out raw guitar licks, Bassist John Yates brings in the low end, Drummer Eric Lemire pounds out violent beats, and James Brookes bridges the gap between deep gutturals and sick high screams.
[EVERTRAPPED] has always taken it upon themselves to release self-produced albums in order to ensure their complete satisfaction with the final product. They have always kept a keen ear to the modern sound in a constantly changing world of Metal production, and taken it into strong consideration. However, this process allows them to retain their creative control and develop their unique sound within the world of Metal none the less.
About the album and track by track explained by [EVERTRAPPED].
«Under The Deep» is an exploration of the deepest reaches of human madness. Not clinical madness, but simply the darkest regions of the soul and the blackest part of the human heart from a mind found to be socially functional, but is really way too far gone. And thus it seeks to explore what is underneath the deepest depth, hence no matter how deep you descend there’s always another layer that can be torn away.
1- […] intro
2- «Arise From The Ashes»: A depiction of someone who has actually reached the bottom, so their rise from there so to speak. Like the king of their own universe broken by all clawing it’s back but fueled by an ever consuming hatred.
3- «Underneath The Deep»: A personal look at how a person can only be fucked up by someone else for too long until they break. But this takes you to a point where you now can’t come back.
4- «Palace Of Injustice»: A stab at anyone blinded by the indoctrination of any institution and their ultimate demise that likely follows due to their ignorance towards it. However, it does aim more at the disgust of the institutions themselves and not so much the ignorance of the people.
5- «Hypnotized By Hatred»: Another personal reflection, but in this case more a person who has been made to believe that all they do is wrong. So it brings up the sense where if you tell someone enough times that they are shit, then eventually they will just believe it. And in this case someone who becomes a very dark god loathing individual because it takes them to a point where they think it’s hysterical.
6- «Blood Of The Fallen»: This is set in a horror like context although it not some zombie tribute. It simply laughs at how we place so much importance on the memory of the dead yet never bat an eye at the reality of human suffering which we ourselves cause.
7- «Lethal District»: Somewhat of a post apocalyptic view of the surviving factions of humanity that instill themselves as the powers that be, and thus cast out the unclean, unworthy, and so forth. And therefore it sheds light on the madness and revolt of the unwanted.
8- «Burning Through Vengeance»: This is a straight up rebel song. A certain arrogant fuck you to a society that rejects you, but you still know that you know better than them. So instead you’ll bide your time and watch them hilariously screw themselves over.
9- «Reaper»: As the title suggests, an end of the line type song. In a certain way captures the essence of [EVERTRAPPED] in terms of the inescapable event that is death.
10- «Embrace The End»: This also goes more or less as the title suggests. This is another song for the apocalypse but more at the actual hour of the end itself. A look at almost coming to terms with the fact that it was likely the fault of humanity and embracing the acceptance of such evil.

Sometimes I get tired of always listening to the same kind of music, so lately I listen to a lot of different kind. And as it often happens to him, Lex has provided me with a very different album. He sent me CORPO-MENTE, a french baroque / trip-hop / acoustic duo formed by Gautier Serre (Igorrr) who handles all instrumentation and production, accompanied by the singer Laure The Prunenec (Rïcïnn [Igorrr/Öxxö Xööx]) to which are added a few collaborators for the recording of its self-titled first album. This is a kind of music I rarely listen to, but I always have a few songs that fit this mood in my player and I have to say CORPO-MENTE warmth my heart and soul.
I loved listening to this mix of baroque and opera with folk / medieval-like music that can also be dark and sometimes heavy. Throughout the album, I felt as if I was in a dark forest, wandering without being lost, just admiring the landscape. This is quiet music, but not soporific. There are many variations and some tremolos which give a very special touch to the songs. I enjoyed the presence of trip hop in the first two songs. It’s very original, definitely not what you normally listen to. Also in some, I heard some distortion… «dubstep style». I’m really not a fan of dubstep, but when it’s light and discreet, it gives a «plus» to the melody. The singer has one of those voices that shows a lot of experience. She has a vocal range that would fit her in an opera but that can also be screamy or more coarse.
My favorite song is «Ort». The singer hypnotized me with her various vocal changes. I’ll say it again, the varied vocal styles used by this singer is intoxicating and so well executed. I’m personally jealous as a former singer.
I have only one very little negative point for this album. I felt that the songs all started a bit in the same mood. I began to feel a déjà vu from the middle of the album but it’s not a big thing when songs unfold in their own pattern and are all, individually taken, so good.
For lovers of quiet and warming imaginative music, CORPO-MENTE should appeal to you. This is a very vivid and accessible music. I invite you to listen to its album on its Bandcamp where you can download it for «NAME YOUR PRICE».
