Voici le compte rendu de Phil Grondin et les photos prises par Joé Lacerte lors du spectacle de Imminence présenté par Extensive Enterprise au Théâtre Fairmount de Montréal le 1er décembre 2023 et qui mettait également à l’affiche Until I Wake.

Compte rendu
Le Théâtre Fairmount accueillait vendredi dernier la tournée « From Sweden with love » mettant en vedette les formations Imminence et Until I Wake, le tout organisé par Extensive Enterprise. Cette soirée à saveur 100% metalcore affichait complet après seulement quelques jours après la mise en vente des billets, signe que le groupe a une certaine popularité dans la province de Québec. Connaissant peu les groupes présents ce soir, ce concert a alors été une soirée de découverte avec seulement deux groupes à l’affiche. Je ne me rappelle pas quand remonte la dernière fois que j’ai vu un spectacle avec seulement deux groupes, plutôt rare non ?
Until I Wake
Until I Wake commence la soirée à 20h avec une salle déjà quasi-pleine. En provenance de Buffalo dans l’état de New-York et fondé en 2020, Until I Wake nous présente en majorité les pièces de leur dernier album « Inside My Head ». Le groupe a su apporter son énergie propre à eux et ils nous ont offert un metalcore de haute qualité. Le chanteur Cody Jamison Johnson offre un chant variant entre le growl et une voix clean. Malgré quelques problèmes techniques au micro, il a effectué un excellent travail car la foule a répondu avec un moshpit dès les premières chansons. Le rythme entre la guitare, bass et drum ont su me satisfaire. Lors de la dernière pièce, « Inside My Head », le chanteur demande un Wall of Life, l’opposé du Wall of Death. Le Wall of Life consiste à gambader, célébrer la vie, faire des câlins. Bref, le monde présent sur le parterre a répondu à l’appel et le Wall of Life a été exécuté tel que demandé. Until I Wake nous a offert une prestation solide et a réchauffé la foule avant Imminence. Un excellent groupe à surveiller.

Imminence
Imminence arrive sous les applaudissements de la foule vers 21h. Ce groupe suédois, actif depuis 2009, lance les hostilités avec la pièce « Paralyzed ». Sur scène, nous pouvons voir un groupe dynamique enchaînant les interactions avec la foule. Dès les premières notes, le parterre se transforme en énorme moshpit et les bodysurfers commencent à s’activer. La foule présente chante à plusieurs occasions les paroles des chansons, au grand plaisir d’Eddie Berg qui leur tend le micro. Un violon accompagne ce même Eddie qui prend plaisir d’en jouer à l’occasion question d’ajouter un côté spécial et unique aux différentes chansons. Je dirais que le violon est vraiment ce qui démarque Imminence des autres groupes de metalcore et qui m’a totalement accroché. Le violon est vraiment bien joué et ajoute une certaine mélodie aux différentes pièces. Par moment, nous pouvons voir une chanson vraiment mélodique et par la suite passer vers une brutalité pure et dure.
Imminence possède un énorme répertoire de diverses chansons avec plus de 4 albums et a pigé dans ceux-ci pour le spectacle de ce soir. De passage au Québec pour la première fois depuis leur création, le groupe a su nous prouver qu’ils ont su gagner les fans québécois et qu’un passage dans un futur sera bien accueilli. Chose certaine, le groupe va sûrement jouer dans une salle beaucoup plus grande que le Fairmount lors de la prochaine tournée car le show a été sold out peu de temps après la mise en vente des billets. C’est sous un drapeau du Québec qu’Imminence quitte la scène après plus d’une heure de performance.

Review
Last Friday, the Fairmount hosted the “From Sweden with love” tour featuring the bands Imminence and Until I Wake, all organized by Extensive Enterprise. This 100% metalcore flavored evening was sold out only a few days after tickets went on sale, a sign that the group has a certain popularity in the province of Quebec. Little knowing the groups present this evening, this concert was an evening of discovery with only two groups. I can’t remember when was the last time I saw a show with only two bands, pretty rare right?
Until I Wake
Until I Wake begins the evening at 8 p.m. with a room already almost full. Coming from Buffalo in the state of New York and founded in 2020, Until I Wake presents us mainly the pieces from their latest album “Inside My Head”. The band was able to bring their own energy and they offered us high quality metalcore. Singer Cody Jamison Johnson offers vocals varying between growl and clean vocals. Despite some technical issues on the mic, he did a great job as the crowd responded with a moshpit from the first few songs. The rhythm between the guitar, bass and drum satisfied me. During the last piece, “Inside My Head”, the singer calls for a Wall of Life, the opposite of the Wall of Death. The Wall of Life is about frolicking, celebrating life, hugging. In short, everyone present on the floor responded to the call and the Wall of Life was executed as requested. Until I Wake gave us a solid performance and warmed up the crowd before Imminence. A great group to watch.

Imminence
Imminence arrives under the applause of the crowd around 9 p.m. This Swedish group, active since 2009, launches hostilities with the piece “Paralyzed”. On stage, we can see a dynamic group interacting with the crowd. From the first notes, the floor transforms into a huge moshpit and the bodysurfers start to get active. The crowd present sings the words of the songs on several occasions, to the great pleasure of Eddie Berg who hands them the microphone. A violin accompanies this same Eddie who enjoys playing it on occasion to add a special and unique side to the different songs. I would say that the violin is really what sets Imminence apart from other metalcore bands and which totally hooked me. The violin is really well played and adds a certain melody to the different pieces. At times we can see a song being really melodic and then transitioning into outright brutality. Imminence has a huge repertoire of various songs with over 4 albums and has drawn from these for tonight’s show. Visiting Quebec for the first time since their creation, the group was able to prove to us that they have won over Quebec fans and that a visit in the future will be well received. One thing is certain, the band will surely play a much bigger venue than the Fairmount during the next tour because the show was sold out shortly after tickets went on sale. It is under a Quebec flag that Imminence leaves the stage after more than one hour of performance.
