Slaughter To Prevail
Un groupe que j’avais vraiment hâte de voir en show et que j’ai dû attendre quelques années pour en avoir enfin l’occasion. J’ai connu le groupe en voyant passer une vidéo du chanteur, Alex Terrible, faire un cover de la chanson We Will Rock You du groupe Queen. Avec un vocal de la sorte, j’ai été tout de suite intrigué à savoir s’il avait un groupe et c’est comme ça que je suis tombé sur Slaughter to Prevail.
Le concert est très particulier selon moi car il n’y a pas de groupe en première partie. Nous avons Slaughter to Prevail uniquement qui vient nous botter le derrière, pour ce que j’espère être deux bonnes heures. Malheureusement sur ce point, je fus extrêmement déçu. Le groupe a joué maximum 1h 15 minutes. Par contre, je peux vous dire que ce ne fut pas un setlist de tout repos. Il y avait de la brutalité, de la rapidité et surtout de l’intensité. Il faut dire que le chanteur est tout simplement un monstre. Fun fact, les gens avaient tellement hâte que le concert commence que sur la musique d’ambiance, ils trashaient. Il y avait même des gens qui faisaient du bodysurfing. Ne pas oublier que le concert n’était pas débuté. L’ambiance était au rendez-vous
Le tout commence vers 9h30. Nous avons été teaser pendant plusieurs minutes avec de la musique techno et des jeux de lumières qui selon moi ont duré trop longtemps. Je me demandais si je ne m’étais pas trompé de concert. Finalement, une vraie intro débute et le groupe arrive sur scène avec leurs masques iconiques. Dès les premières notes du concert, je savais que ça ferait mal. Les musiciens étaient tout simplement en feu. Ils avaient toute qu’une présence sur scène. Sans nécessairement se promener d’un bout a l’autre, le headbang était au rendez-vous. Par contre, je trouve que c’était limite trop chorégraphié dans le sens ou ils faisaient la même chose au même moment. Selon moi, ça enlève de la spontanéité au concert. Je tiens à dire que je n’enlève ABSOLUMENT RIEN à la qualité de leur prestation.
Pour ce qui est d’Alex Terrible (le chanteur), selon moi, c’est l’icône du groupe, une bête tout simplement! Il est celui que les gens reconnaissent sur la rue, le visage du groupe (quand ils n’ont pas leurs masques bien sûr). Il nous a livré une performance sans failles, remplis de techniques pour ce qui est de sa voix. Il est charismatique et même avec la barrière linguistique, car on s’entend qu’il est russe et que l’anglais est sa langue seconde, il a su faire lever la foule qui était déjà au bord de l’explosion. Du Wall of Death au Circle Pit en passant par le bodysurfing, il ne manquait rien pour que l’ambiance soit démente. À plusieurs reprises, le chanteur nous a dit à quel point on était des spectateurs formidables et à quel point ils veulent revenir jouer ici. Ils ont, eux aussi, passé un aussi bon moment avec nous.Un côté que j’ai moins aimé du concert est le fait qu’Alex a eu à dealer avec un feedback et le soundman semblait dormir au gaz. Nous l’avons vu exprimer sa frustration en pointant le moniteur et en hurlant quelque chose qui semblait être F**k en direction de la personne qui s’occupait des moniteurs.
Le moment clou de la soirée fut la chanson Demolisher, il y a un bout dans la chanson ou le vocal est extrêmement grave entrecoupé de punch de guitares et de batterie qui se termine par les paroles DEMOLISHERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Ce fut un régal d’entendre la foule hurler le mot avant que la chanson reprenne.
Ce fut une ÉPIQUE et BRUTALE première performance au Québec pour le groupe qui, selon moi, vas revenir TRÈS bientôt. En espérant qu’ils reviennent avec un setlist beaucoup plus long cette fois-ci…

Slaughter To Prevail
A group that I was really looking forward to see in show and that I had to wait a few years to finally have the opportunity. I knew the group by seeing a video of the singer, Alex Terrible, doing a cover of the song We Will Rock You by the group Queen. With a vocal like that, I was immediately intrigued to find out if he had a band and that’s how I came across Slaughter to Prevail.
The concert is very special in my opinion because there is no first part. We have Slaughter to Prevail only coming to kick our ass, for what I hope is a good two hours. Unfortunately on this point, I was extremely disappointed. The group played maximum 1h 15 minutes. On the other hand, I can tell you that it was not an easy setlist. That was brutal, speedy and above all intensity. It must be said that the singer is simply a monster. Fun fact, people were so eager for the concert to start that on the background music, they were thrashing. There were even people doing bodysurfing. Do not forget that the concert wasn’t started yet. The atmosphere was on point
It all starts around 9:30 pm. We were teased for several minutes with techno music and light shows which in my opinion lasted too long. I was wondering if I had gotten the wrong gig. Finally, a real intro begins and the band arrives on stage with their iconic masks. From the first notes of the concert, I knew it would hurt. The musicians were simply on fire. They had all that stage presence. Without necessarily walking from one end to the other, the headbang was there. On the other hand, I find that it was borderline too choreographed in the sense that they were doing the same thing at the same time. In my opinion, it takes away from the spontaneity of the concert. I want to say that I take ABSOLUTELY NOTHING away from the quality of their performance.
For Alex Terrible (the singer), in my opinion, he is the icon of the group, quite simply a beast! He is the one people recognize on the street, the face of the group (when they don’t have their masks on of course). He gave us a flawless performance, full of techniques in terms of his voice. He is charismatic and even with the language barrier, because we agree that he is Russian and that English is his second language, he knew how to get the crowd up which was already on the verge of explosion. From the Wall of Death to the Circle Pit via bodysurfing, nothing was missing to make the atmosphere crazy. On several occasions, the singer told us how great spectators we were and how much they want to come back to play here. They had such a good time with us. One side that I liked less about the concert is the fact that Alex had to deal with feedback and the soundman seemed to be sleeping on gas. We saw him vent his frustration by pointing at the monitor and yelling something that sounded like F**k at the person handling the monitors.
The highlight of the evening was the song Demolisher, there is a part in the song where the vocal is extremely serious interspersed with punch of guitars and drums which ends with the words DEMOLISHERRRRRRRRRRRRR. It was a treat to hear the crowd scream the word before the song resumed.
It was a EPIC and BRUTAL first performance in Quebec for the group which, in my opinion, will be back VERY soon. Here’s hoping they come back with a much longer setlist this time around…
