Voici la critique de Jean-Daniel Poirier et les photos prises par Vicky Fillion lors du spectacle de Sabaton présenté par Heavy Montreal, Greenland Productions & FPC Live à la Place Bell de Laval le 22 octobre 2022 et qui mettait également à l’affiche Epica.

Epica
C’est la première fois que j’ai l’occasion de faire un compte rendu d’évènement pour un gros concert international et je commence ça en grand avec deux groupes très connus qui ont un fan base monstre. Merci à Evenko pour cette opportunité!
Epica, est un groupe que je connais seulement de nom, donc ce soir je me permets de vraiment les découvrir. Nous avons droit à une formule de métal symphonique, mais beaucoup plus énergique que le métal symphonique que je suis habitué d’entendre.
Les trois mots qui me viennent en tête, avec le spectacle qui se déroule devant moi, sont précision, professionnel et énergique. Les musiciens sont en forme et ils sont heureux d’être ici ce soir. L’ambiance est exceptionnellement au rendez-vous. Ce qui m’a le plus marqué de leur performance est littéralement le côté symphonique mélangé avec le côté pesant et rapide du métal.
Pour la chanson Forever and Ever, la chanteuse a demandé au public de chanter avec elle. Nous avons même eu droit à un solo de drum. Ça rentrait au poste! Par la suite, le guitariste s’est permis de s’amuser avec le publique en leur faisant crier bière étant donné que nous sommes samedi et que c’est un jour pour boire. Donc +10 pour l’interaction avec le public. Ensuite, celui-ci a terminé la chanson dans le parterre et il a remis son pic à une personne de l’assistance.
Pour la dernière chanson, ils ont même fait un wall of death. Très solide performance. C’est un groupe qui mérite amplement sa place dans la cour des grands. Une très belle découverte pour moi.
Sabaton
Ce n’est pas mon groupe préféré, mais tout le monde que je connais et qui sont fans de Sabaton me disent: tant que tu n’as pas vécu un show de Sabaton, tu n’as pas le droit de dire que tu n’aimes pas ça. Donc, me voici a leur concert et voyons à quel point ces fans ont raison…ou tord haha.
Pour commencer, il y a un fuck**g tank sur la scène! Il y a aussi des barbelés, des poches de sable pour recréer une tranchée. C’est la guerre ici. Il y a aussi de la pyrotechnie. Le visuel de ce groupe est tout simplement époustouflant. Le concept est vraiment trippant.
Musicalement, les gars sont des machines. C’est tight et ça rentre au poste. Ils ont de l’énergie à revendre. Le chanteur court partout et les guitaristes sont omniprésents. Les solos de guitare sont vraiment bien exécutés. Le batteur, sans jouer dans le technique, livre réellement la marchandise. Le chanteur a une très bonne voix qui porte. Pendant la pièce Bismarck, nous avons eu droit à des rameurs dans le pit.
J’ai bien aimé quand les musiciens ont mis des masques à gaz et que le chanteur est arrivé déguisé avec deux bombonnes et un gun à fumée. Ils ont même offert aux gens présents de choisir la langue dans laquelle serait chantée une chanson, soit en anglais ou en suédois. Le suédois l’a emporté haut la main.
Ils ont vraiment du plaisir sur la scène. Les guitaristes et le bassiste semblent vraiment aimer taquiner leur chanteur sur scène. Un manche entre les jambes, lui coller des pics de guitare sur la tête font parti des choses qu’ils lui ont fait subir pendant le concert. Pour se venger, il est parti de la scène et a obligé un des guitaristes à chanter une chanson d’AC/DC et il s’est bien débrouillé.
Vraiment pour ce qui est de l’expérience visuelle, c’est un must. Musicalement par contre, je ne suis toujours pas fan. Je trouve que ça tourne en rond côté structures des chansons et c’est catchy. Je n’enlève absolument rien au groupe mais, ce n’est pas pour moi malheureusement.
Malgré tout, je recommande Sabaton à tout le monde, car le spectacle est unique.

Review
This is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to do an event report for a big international concert and I’m starting it big with two very well-known bands who have a huge fan base. Thanks to Evenko for this opportunity!
Epica
A group that I only know by name, so tonight I allow myself to really discover Epica. We are entitled to a symphonic metal formula, but much more energetic than the symphonic metal that I am used to listen. The three words that come to mind are precision, professional and energetic. The musicians are in good shape and they are happy to be here tonight. The atmosphere is simply there. What struck me the most about their performance was literally the symphonic side mixed with the heavy and fast side of metal.
For the song Forever and Ever, the singer asked the public to sing along. We even got a drum solo. It was back to work! Subsequently, the guitarist allowed himself to have fun with the public by making them shout beer since it is Saturday and it is a day to drink beer. So +10 for interaction with the public. Then, he finished the song in the floor and he gave his pick to someone in the audience.
For the last song, they even made a wall of death. Very solid performance. This is a group that fully deserves its place in the big leagues. A very nice discovery for me.
Sabaton
They’re not my favorite band, but everyone I know who is a Sabaton fan tells me that until you’ve seen a Sabaton show, you can’t say you don’t them. So here I am and see how right or wrong these fans are…haha.
First of all, there’s a fuck**g tank on stage! There are also barbed wire, pockets of sand to recreate a trench. It’s war here! There is also pyrotechnics. The visual of this group is simply breathtaking. The concept is really trippy.
Musically, they are machines. It’s tight and they have energy to spare. The singer runs everywhere and guitarists are omnipresent. Guitar solos are really well executed. The drummer, without playing very technical, he really delivers. The singer has a very good voice. During Bismarck, we were treated to rowers in the pit.
I liked it when the musicians put on gas masks and the singer came in disguise with two canisters and a smoke gun. They even offered people present to choose the language of a song, either in English or in Swedish. The Swedish won!
They really have fun on stage. Guitarists and bassist seem to really enjoy teasing their vocalist on stage. A stick between his legs, sticking guitar picks on his head are some of the things they did to him during the concert. In revenge, he ran off stage and made one of the guitarists (Tommy Johansson) sing an AC/DC song and he did it perfectly!
Really, when it comes to the show experience, Sabaton is a must. Musically though, I’m still not a fan. I think it’s going around in circles in terms of song structure and it’s catchy. I take absolutely nothing away from the group but, unfortunately, it’s not for me.
I Still recommend Sabaton to everyone because the show is unique.
