Enfin, on y est, jeudi 9 décembre, après une annulation en début de crise sanitaire puis un report, nous pouvons mettre les pieds au MTelus et assister au spectacle de Thundercat. Maleureusement, la première partie n’a pas eu cette chance. Toutefois, ça n’a rien enlevé a cette soirée mémorable.
La soirée débute avec une longue introduction de plusieurs minutes, puis sous les douces notes d’une basse Ibanez, 6 cordes, joué par l’ex-Suicidal Tendencies de notre trio sur scène. Il était difficile de ne pas être envouté par ce que nous entendions. Les lignes des partitions et les solos que Stephen Lee Bruner interprétait étaient assez impressionnants et complexes, et ce, pour toutes les chansons du set. Le genre de Thundercat tourne principalement autour du jazz, mais en live on a droit à quelque chose qui bouge pas mal. Il était également très charismatique et avait beaucoup d’anecdotes à partager avec nous. La musique jouée était très originale, autant au niveau mélodique que rythmique avec seulement trois musiciens sur scène. Habituellement, on peut voir une guitare qui mène dans un groupe, mais cette fois-ci, c’est vraiment la basse l’instrument principal.
Charmé par la musique, c’était comme un long voyage qui a duré près de deux heures. La salle était en feu; ça dansait, ça chantait et ça s’agitait dans tout les sens sous la prestation époustouflante qui nous a été offerte. Je pense que le groupe était super attendu. La salle était bondée. C’était plus que plaisant d’avoir pu en etre témoin et d’en avoir été votre messagère.

Finally, we are there, Thursday, December 9th, after a cancellation at the begining of the pandemic and then a postponement, we can finally go to the MTelus and be there for Thundercat concert. Unfortunately, the first group has canceled their performance. However, this was a memorable evening.
The show starts with a several minutes introduction, then under the sweet notes of an 6 strings Ibanez bass, played by the ex-Suicidal Tendencies of the trio on stage. It was hard not to be bewitched by the music. The lines of the partition and the solos, that Stephen Lee Bruner performed, were quite impressive and complex, for every song of the set. The Thundercat genre revolves mainly around jazz, but during live show you get something that moves quite a bit. He was also very charismatic and had a lot of anecdotes to share with us. The music played was very original, both melodic and rhythmic with only three musicians on stage. Usually you can see a guitar leading in a band, but this time everything goes around the bass.
Charmed by the music, it was like a great journey that lasted almost two hours. The room was on fire; everyone danced, sang and stirred in all directions under the breathtaking performance that was offered to us. I think the group was eagerly awaited. The MTelus was packed. It was pleasant very pleasant to be there and be your messenger/reviewer.
