Voici la critique de Jean-Daniel Poirier et les photos prises par Vicky Fillion lors du spectacle de Omnium Gatherum présenté par District 7 Production et Capitale du Metal à La Source de la Martinière de Québec le 26 mars 2022 et qui mettait également à l’affiche Allegaeon.

Critique
Samedi 26 mars 2022 nous avons eu la chance d’avoir une accréditation pour assister au concert de Black Crown Initiate, Allegaeon et Omnium Gatherum. Merci à District 7 Production pour cette opportunité. Pour ma part, je ne connaissais que Black Crown Initiate et je ne savais pas vraiment à quoi m’attendre des autres groupes. Quelques jours avant la date fatidique, nous avons appris que malheureusement, Black Crown Initiate ne pourrait pas être de la partie, car un membre à attraper le Covid-19, et ils ont dû déclarer forfait pour le reste de la tournée. Donc, pour moi, ce fût une soirée 100% découverte.
C’était le premier show, avec des groupes internationaux et surtout avec presque toutes les mesures sanitaires abolies, auquel j’assistais depuis le début de la pandémie. Ça fait du bien de vivre un concert debout avec les gens qui thrashent et qui headbang debout devant la scène, car on va se le dire, assister à un concert métal assis, c’est comme manger une poutine sans sauce. Ça se fait, mais il manque quelque chose de TRÈS IMPORTANT. L’ambiance était totalement au rendez-vous et les gens, tout comme les musiciens, étaient TRÈS heureux d’être sur place.
Allegaeon
Incontestablement, ils sont ma découverte de la soirée. Ils ont tous les éléments réunis dans leur matériel pour déclencher l’effet WOW dans mon cas. Ils œuvrent dans un métal technique et mélodique avec des bouts plus doux et acoustiques avec du vocal clean. Ils sont venus nous présenter leur nouvel album Damnum qui est sortis le 25 février dernier.
Musicalement, les gars sont impeccables. Tout sonne à la perfection et c’est tight. Vraiment il n’y a rien de négatif qui a retenu mon attention. Les gars ont une présence sur scène vraiment prononcée. Il y a de l’action et ils déplacent de l’air. Les guitaristes sont vraiment bons. Leurs riffs de guitare sont vraiment recherchés et techniques. Ils utilisent des 8 cordes et ils les utilisent bien. Les solos étaient vraiment bons également, qu’ils soient individuels ou en harmonies, tout était là pour me plaire.
Parlons maintenant du bassiste. Ce gars-là, c’est une bête. Il prend la place qui lui revient sur scène. Il est très présent et il est vraiment trippant à regarder. En plus, on ajoute qu’il a un TRÈS bon playing. Il est très versatile dans ce qu’il joue, ce qui en fait un bassiste accompli. Au niveau de la batterie, ce gars est un métronome humain. Blast beats, basedrum rapide, polyrythmie, rien ne lui résiste et le tout est exécuté à la perfection. Il est vraiment solide et trippant à regarder jouer.
Pour ce qui est du chanteur, c’est l’homme aux mille et une voix. Il est un monstre tout simplement. Sa maîtrise de ses cordes vocales est tout simplement impressionnante. Il peut passer d’un cri ultra-grave à un aiguë dans le même souffle. Ses vocal cleans sont vraiment sur le pitch également. Il a aussi une bonne interaction avec le public. Il est charismatique à souhait
Allegaeon nous a livré une performance impeccable et qui m’a fait littéralement accrocher sur le groupe. Une très belle découverte pour moi et j’espère les revoir sur scène bientôt.
Omnium Gatherum
Un autre groupe que je ne connaissais que de nom. Dès les premières notes de leur setlist, j’ai compris que je ne pourrais pas, ne pas aimer ce band. Ils nous ont servi un bon vieux melodeath swedish comme j’aime bien. Les musiciens étaient vraiment heureux d’être sur scène et ça paraissait. Ils sont ultra charismatiques, ils ont un EXCELLENT contact avec la foule et leur présence sur scène est irréprochable.
À quelques occasions on a même pu les voir « prendre la pose » pour les photographes présents sur place. Musicalement, les musiciens sont très bons, mais malheureusement, je n’entendais vraiment pas le clavier… Les guitaristes ont des bons riffs mélodiques et entraînants. Ils se donnent vraiment à fond côté présence sur scène et ils donnent le show. Ils headbang, interagissent avec les gens de l’audience, ils se promènent d’un côté et de l’autre de la scène et le tout en exécutant leurs partitions de manière exemplaire.
Au niveau de la basse, j’ai trouvé le musicien plutôt invisible. Il était plus en retrait et avait moins d’énergie que les guitaristes, mais cela n’empêche pas qu’il a donné une très bonne performance dans l’ensemble. Le drummer était très tight et il a vraiment de bonnes idées sur son instrument, les beats peuvent être originaux et recherchés tous comme ils peuvent être simples, mais efficaces.
Côté voix, le chanteur a une voix qui se porte à merveille au style. Une voix que je qualifierais de melodeath old school. Il a une belle prestance sur scène. Il aime interagir avec le publique en leur faisant des horns up ou encore en leur serrant la main. Il est vraiment quelqu’un qui aime être près de son public et c’est tout en son honneur. Les gens sur place ont vraiment apprécié.
Un point fort du concert fût entre deux chansons, quand le publique s’est tout simplement mis à crier pour démontrer leur appréciation envers le concert qu’ils recevaient. Les gars du groupe étaient totalement émus!
J’ai vraiment apprécié mon moment avec Omnium Gatherum. Ils donnent une très belle performance!

Saturday March 26, 2022 we were lucky enough to have an accreditation to attend the concert of Black Crown Initiate, Allegaeon and Omnium Gatherum. Thanks to District 7 Production for this opportunity. For my part, I only knew Black Crown Initiate and I didn’t really know what to expect from the other bands. A few days before the show, we learned that unfortunately Black Crown Initiate couldn’t be part of the show, because a member caught Covid-19, and they had to cancel their presence for the rest of the tour. So, for me, it was a 100% discovery evening.
It was the first show, with international groups and especially with almost all sanitary measures abolished, I had attended since the start of the pandemic. It feels good to experience a concert, standing up with people, thrashing and headbanging and standing in front of the stage. Being at a metal concert seated is like eating poutine without sauce. It’s ok, but something VERY IMPORTANT is missing. The atmosphere was awesome and the people, just like the musicians, were VERY happy to be there.
Allegaeon
They are my discovery of the evening. They have all the elements together in their songs to trigger the WOW effect in me. They play a technical and melodic metal with softer acoustic guitars and clean vocals. They came to present their new album Damnum which was released on February 25th.
Musically, the guys are impeccable. Everything sounds perfect and it’s tight. Really there is nothing negative that caught my attention. They have a really pronounced stage presence. Guitarists are really good. Their guitar riffs are really melodic and technical. They use 8 strings and they use them well. The solos were really good too, individual or in harmonies, everything was there to please me.
Now let’s talk about the bassist. This guy is a beast. He takes his rightful place on stage. He is very present, he is really nice to watch and he has VERY good playing skills. He is very versatile in what he plays, which makes him an accomplished bass player. The drummer, this guy is a human metronome. Blast beats, fast basedrum, polyrhythm, nothing can resist him and everything is executed to perfection. He is really solid and impressive to watch.
The singer, the man with a thousand and one voices. He’s just a monster. His mastery of his vocal cords is simply impressive. It can go from an ultra-low to a high-pitched scream in the same breath. His clean vocals are really on pitch as well. He also has a good interaction with the public. He’s charismatic as hell.
Allegaeon gave us an impeccable performance that literally got me hooked on the band. A very nice discovery and I hope to see them back on stage soon.
Omnium Gatherum
Another band that I only knew by their name. From the first notes of their setlist, I understood that I will enjoy their music. They served us a good old Swedish melodeath as I like. The musicians were really happy to be on stage. They are ultra charismatic, they have EXCELLENT contact with the crowd and their stage presence are impeccable. On a few occasions we have even been able to see them « taking the pose » for the photographers. Musically, they are very good, but unfortunately, I really couldn’t hear the keyboard… The guitarists have good melodic and catchy riffs. They gave us a really good show. They headbang, interact with the people in the audience, they walk from side to side of the stage and all while performing their parts in an exemplary manner.
The bass player gave a good show even if his energy level was not as high as the other musicians, but his parts are good and he performed them well. The drummer was very tight and has really good ideas. His beats can be technical and elaborate, or they can be simple and effective.
For the vocal, the singer has a voice that fits perfectly with the style. A voice that I would describe as old school melodeath. He has a great presence on stage. He likes to interact with the public by doing horns up or shaking hands of people in the crowd. He is really someone who likes to be close to his public. People there really appreciated it.
A highlight of the concert was between two songs, when the audience simply started to scream to show their appreciation of the concert they were receiving. The band was really moved
I really enjoyed my time with Omnium Gatherum. They give a great performance!
