De Cambridge en Angleterre, la formation de Black Metal atmosphérique TERRA nous présentait son premier long-jeu en carrière. Celui-ci consiste en trois pièces entre 11 minutes et des poussières pour la plus courte et plus de 15 minutes pour la plus longue.
Si la production de Matt Crawford est généralement à la hauteur avec des tons de guitare saturée riches et une batterie puissante, le groupe semble malheureusement se tirer dans le pied avec des pièces beaucoup trop longues pour leur propre bien, basées sur quelques motifs circulaires qui semblent ne jamais aboutir sur un orgasme auditif. Les trois pièces s’achèvent d’ailleurs sur plus de 40 secondes de feedback de guitare qui n’apportent absolument rien et accentuent la répétitivité de l’album. Si certaines parties des trois pièces se révèlent intéressantes, le groupe aurait eu avantage à affiner son écriture et à éliminer la masturbation musicale qui rallonge inutilement la sauce. De plus, les motifs de batterie semblent parfois ne pas du tout être les meilleurs pour mettre en valeur les guitares. En outre, le chant hurlé est utilisé seulement sporadiquement comme effet sonore, plus que comme instrument sur l’album et se retrouve écrasé complètement en dessous de tout le reste et n’apporte donc pas grand-chose à l’ensemble.
En somme, l’album ressemble à un jam enregistré sans vraiment d’écriture préalable qui comporte quelques bons moments perdus dans un maelström de motifs circulaires qui ne mènent nulle part au final.

From Cambridge in England, the formation of atmospheric Black Metal TERRA released its first full length album a few months ago. The latter consists of three songs ticking at some 11 minutes for the shortest one and more than 15 minutes for the longest.
If the production of Matt Crawford usually live up to what is expected with rich tones of saturated guitar and powerful drums, the band seems unfortunately to shoot itself in the foot with way too long songs for their own good, based on some circular patterns that seem to never built up to an auditory orgasm. All three songs are even completed with more than 40 seconds of guitar feedback that brings absolutely nothing to the song, apart from accentuating the repetitiveness of the album. If parts of the three tracks sound interesting, the band would have benefited to refine its writing and eliminate unnecessary musical masturbation that just makes the songs longer. In addition, the drum patterns sometimes seem not at all to be the best to showcase the guitars. Furthermore, the screaming vocals are used only sporadically as a sound effect, rather than as an instrument and are completely crushed beneath everything else and therefore do not add much to the mix.
In sum, the album sounds like a jam recorded without prior writing that really has some good moments lost in a maelström of circular patterns that ultimately lead nowhere.
