Ce super groupe de Trois-Rivières a été formé en 2003, mais ne répond au doux nom de OUTLYING que depuis 2007. Ayant changé de membres quelques fois au cours des années, c’est peu de temps après la sortie, en 2012, de son premier CD, «Scars of Daylight» que le chanteur et fondateur, Fred A. Dubeau, trouva les deux membres décisifs (Jean- Daniel Poirier, bassiste et ex-membre de End is Near et Martin «Frenchy» Reithler à la batterie), qui espérons-le, formeront OUTLYING, le VRAI, jusqu’à la mort.
Il y a plus de trois ans que j’attendais la sortie de «Frameworks For Repression». Lorsque j’ai reçu ma copie, je l’ai tout de suite mise dans le lecteur CD et j’ai joué à un jeu de table en pensant simplement l’écouter en background, mais la partie n’a pas duré longtemps! La musique a capté toute mon attention.
Déjà qu’avec la sortie «Scars of Daylight», je trouvais que la formation avait beaucoup mûri depuis le spectacle que j’avais vu en 2009 et qu’il avait déjà atteint le top. Eh bien, leur second CD m’a impressionné davantage.
Bien que le groupe joue du Death mélodique depuis ses débuts, j’ai comme l’impression qu’OUTLYING a accentué son côté mélodique. C’est peut-être juste une impression, mais en tout cas je préfère cette tournure qu’ils ont prise. L’album comporte des supers riffs accrocheurs et ceux qui ont suivi le groupe End is Near reconnaîtront sûrement la petite touche que l’ex-membre a apportée.
Mon attention a également été portée vers les voix. J’ai trouvé que les back vocals sont bien placées, notamment dans la chanson «Crambled Dawn» où les back sont, selon moi, solidement saisissants. Et que dire des lyrics! Ils sont vraiment «Wow!». De magnifiques métaphores avec des mots parfaitement choisis. Portez une attention particulière à la cinquième chanson, «Alicia’s Tales» et pour les amateurs de poésie, je suggère fortement «Fallen Fairy», surtout à la fin de la pièce 😉 . Je tiens à préciser que je suis mauvais avec l’Anglais et pour les besoins de la cause, j’ai demandé de me traduire quelque tounes pour être certain de bien comprendre ce que j’écoutais. Que voulez-vous, je ne fais pas les choses à moitié!
Ah oui! Dernier point que je veux absolument souligner. Je m’incline humblement devant Fred et son excellent travail d’enregistrement, de montage audio et même pour le montage des images de la pochette. Bref, pour tout le super travail.
Je vous suggère donc fortement de vous procurer, «Frameworks For Repression», le nouvel album d’OUTLYING.

This group from Trois-Rivières, Quebec was formed in 2003, but got the sweet name OUTLYING only in 2007. Having changed members several times over the years, it is not long after the release, in 2012, of its first CD «Scars of Daylight» that the singer/guitarist and founder, Fred A. Dubeau, found the two key members (Jean Daniel Poirier, bassist and former member of End is Near and Martin «Frenchy» Reithler on drums), who hopefully will form OUTLYING until death.
It has been more than three years that I have been expecting the release of «Frameworks For Repression». When I received my copy, I immediately put it in the CD player while setting myself to play a boardgame with friends. I thought it would be the perfect background soundtrack for the game but the game did not last long! The music caught all our attention.
Already with the release «Scars of Daylight», I thought that the band had matured a lot since the show I had seen in 2009 and for my taste, they had already reached the top. Well, their second CD impressed me more.
While the band plays Melodic Death Metal since its formation, I feel like OUTLYING upgraded its melodic side. It may be just an impression, but in any case I prefer this lane they have taken. The album features some great catchy riffs and those who followed End is Near surely recognize the touch that its former member brought here.
My attention was also attracted to the vocals. I thought that the backing vocals are well placed, especially in the song «Crambled Dawn» where the backvocals are simply stunning. And what about the lyrics! They are really «Wow!». Beautiful metaphors with perfectly chosen words. Pay a special attention to the fifth song, «Alicia’s Tales» and for poetry lovers, I strongly suggest «Fallen Fairy» especially the end of the song 😉 .
Oh yes! There is a last point I absolutely want to emphasize. Fred did an excellent work of recording, audio editing and even editing the sleeve images.
I strongly suggest that you get yourself a copy of «Frameworks For Repression» if you are looking for a very good Melodic Death Metal album.
