BOARS est un mix de Electro/Crossover/Nu-Metal/Industrial produit et réalisé par Anthony Chognard (Smash Hit Combo) via CHS Prod. Ils se présentent souvent en disant qu’ils sont 3% électro, 3% Rock, 3% Hip Hop et 91% irrévérent… Ils sont originaires de Nancy, France et le groupe est formé de Florent (Drums), Florian (Guitare), Mix (Basse), Thomas (Claviers/Séquences) et Maxime (Chant). Le groupe a rapidement réussi à trouver une maison pour cet album auprès de la maison darkTunes pour la couverture Européenne.
BOARS est un groupe a part entière ayant son propre son et son propre style bien que l’on puisse facilement reconnaitre des influences indéniables de diverses formations américaines. Le rapprochement sonore avec NIN, Stabbing Westward, ou encore Linkin Park (au niveau de la sonorité uniquement) est assez évidente. Je pourrais pousser ma chance encore plus en allant jusqu’à faire certain rapprochement avec le dernier opus de Bring Me The Horizon.
«There Will Be Parties/Fun/Gallows for Everyone» est leur premier album officiel. On a eu droit à diverses parutions par le passé qui était beaucoup plus Pop-Electro. Ils y sont allés d’un single en français avec la pièce «Immature» qui était de type Electro/Rap/Rock. Un single que j’avais particulièrement aimé. Mais ce passage vers le français semble s’être arrêté à ce titre. «There Will Be Parties/Fun/Gallows for Everyone» est un album complètement anglophone et j’imagine que le but premier est de viser l’international. On a pu voir une grande évolution niveau sonore au fil du temps mais cette fois, on est un grand pas en avant. C’est soigné, travaillé et précis.
L’album débute avec la chanson «3%». On démarre l’aventure auditive et très rapidement on comprend à ce qu’on a droit: un mix très bien balancé entre l’Electro et un Metal accessible à la limite Nu-Metal sans toutefois tomber dans le cliché facile de la vieille vague Nu-Metal.
On continue avec «Deeper» qui est, à mon avis, la plus NINish de leurs pièces. Un mix de léger scream sur un chant très présent et plus mélodieux.
«Gospel/Warsongs» est mon coup de cœur de cet album. On nous démontre que, malgré leur coté plus « léger », ils savent très bien nous livrer du plus lourd. La chanson me rappelle beaucoup la série de compositions de Jonathan Davis pour la trame sonore du film «Queen of the Damned». Sombre, ambiant, guitare lente dans un mood lourd.
On continue sans cesse dans ces vagues nous rendant nostalgique de nos anciens groupes du type Stabbing Westward, Gravity Kills sans oublier qu’on écoute quelque chose de totalement rafraichissant.
Tout au long de l’album, tout est quasi parfait. Le talent de chaque membre du groupe est indéniable et maitrisé. Le travail de mix/réalisation/production est également d’une qualité rarement entendu pour un groupe que l’on peut quand même considérer d’émergent. Le chant est constamment communicatif d’une rage interne du chanteur. Bien que l’on y retrouve du scream, c’est très accessible.
On termine le tout sur deux pièces qui, à mon avis sont très différentes. «Merry Go Round» pour commencer, est celle qui vient le plus me rappeler les influences Nu-Métal de BOARS. On pourrait faire un certain rapprochement avec l’époque plus commercial de Korn («Issues», «Untouchables») et on termine avec «Berserk». Selon moi, c’est une pièce de fermeture d’album parfaite pour aller dans le sens qu’on nous a guidé tout au long de cet album.
«There Will Be Parties/Fun/Gallows for Everyone» est très peaufiné et parfaitement mixé. Il mérite d’être découvert et partagé au maximum pour les amateurs du genre. La production est d’une qualité qu’on ne peut qu’envier si vous êtes un groupe émergent qui se prépare à sortir un album. Un album anglophone venant de Français de Nancy, on aurait pu s’attendre à entendre un gros accent sur le vocal. Sans dire qu’on n’en entend pas, le travail au niveau de la langue parlée est également très accompli. On pourrait facilement s’y méprendre.
Indéniablement, cet album est un coup de cœur pour moi et bien que sorti à la fin de l’an 2016, il se retrouve absolument dans mon top 5 de l’an. Et considérant la date de sortie tardive, risque de rester dans mes tops 2017.

BOARS plays a mix of Electro/Crossover/Nu-Metal/Industrial produced and directed by Anthony Chognard (Smash Hit Combo) via CHS Prod. They often describe themselves as 3% electro, 3% Rock, 3% Hip Hop and 91% irreverent… They’re from Nancy, France and the band members are Florent (Drums), Florian (Guitar), Mix (Bass), Thomas (Keyboards/Sequences) and Maxime (Vocals). The group quickly managed to find a label for this album in darkTunes Music Group for the European coverage.
BOARS is a full-fledged band with its own sound and style although one can easily recognize the undeniable influences of various American formations. NIN, Stabbing Westward or Linkin Park (at the level of the sound only) is quite obvious. I could take my chances further by saying it also gets somewhat close to the last opus of Bring Me The Horizon.
«There Will Be Parties/Fun/Gallows for Everyone» is their first official album. There had various releases in the past that were much more Pop-Electro. They also released a single in French, «Immature» which was Electro/ Rap/Rock. A single that I particularly liked. But this passage to French seems to have stopped right there. «There Will Be Parties/Fun/Gallows for Everyone» is completely in English and I imagine that the first goal is to aim for the international. We have seen a great evolution in their sound over time but this time it is a big step forward. It is neat, well worked and precise.
The album begins with the song «3%». We start the auditive adventure and very quickly we understand what we are up to: a very well balanced mix between Electro and an accessible Metal flirting with Nu-Metal without falling into the easy cliché of the first wave of Nu-Metal.
We continue with «Deeper» which is, in my opinion, the most NINish of their songs. A mix of light screams set upon an otherwise very present and more melodious vocal.
«Gospel/Warsongs» is my favorite of the album. We are shown that despite their «lighter» side, they know very well how to deliver the heavy stuff. The song reminds me the series of compositions by Jonathan Davis for the soundtrack of «Queen of the Damned». Dark, ambient with slow guitars in a heavy mood.
The nostalgia waves for old groups like Stabbing Westward and Gravity Kills is real but without forgetting that we listen to something totally refreshing.
Throughout the album, everything is almost perfect. The talent of each member is undeniable and mastered. The work of mix/mastering/production is also of a quality rarely heard for a group that can be consider to emerge. The song is constantly communicative of the singer inner rage. Although there is scream, it is very accessible.
The album ends with two songs that, in my opinion, are very different. «Merry Go Round» is the one that remind me the most the Nu-Metal influences of BOARS. I feel some connection with the more commercial era of Korn («Issues», «Untouchables») and then «Berserk» which is a perfect closer to follow in the direction we were guided throughout this album.
«There Will Be Parties/Fun/Gallows for Everyone» is very refined and perfectly mixed. It deserves to be discovered and shared to the maximum for fans of the genre. The production is of a quality that can be saddening if you are an emerging group that is preparing to release an album. An album with English lyrics by some French from Nancy, one would have expected to hear a big accent on the vocal. Not to say that we do not feel one, the work at the level of the spoken language is also very accomplished. He could fooled many.
Undeniably, this album is a favorite for me and although it was released in the last part of 2016, it instantly grabbed a spot in my top 5 of the year. And considering the late release date, it risks staying in my 2017 tops.
