Après m’avoir impressionné il y a deux ans avec la parution de son premier album, «2000 AD», la formation Black Metal abitibienne BLACK EMPIRE revient à la charge cette année avec un second opus, «Darkness is My Throne».
Avec une production organique rappelant les efforts des maîtres suédois du genre dans les années 1990, le trio nous présente cette fois un effort beaucoup plus constant et solide que son premier album. Les mélodies de guitare sont accrocheuses, les hurlements râpeux solides et la batterie semble être installée directement dans mon salon quand j’écoute l’album. La basse est aussi bien présente, contribuant à rendre le son du groupe plus imposant.
Les compositions sont dans l’ensemble plus efficaces et matures que sur le premier opus, ce qui démontre une évolution bienvenue. Les fanatiques de groupes tels que Dark Funeral, The Black, Necrophobic, Dissection et consorts ne seront aucunement déçus par cet opus franchement réussi!

Having impressed me two years ago with the release of its first album, «2000 AD», the Black Metal outfit from Abitibi BLACK EMPIRE comes back in full charge this year with a second album, «Darkness is My Throne».
With an organic production recalling the efforts of the Swedish masters of the genre in the 1990s, the trio presents this time a lot more consistent and solid effort than its first album. The guitar melodies are catchy, the raspy screams are solid and the drum seems to be directly in my living room when I listen to the album. The bass is present as well, helping to make the sound more imposing.
The compositions are generally more efficient and mature than on the first album, demonstrating a beneficial evolution. Fanatics of bands such as Dark Funeral, The Black, Necrophobic, Dissection and others will not be disappointed by this definitely well done album!
