Ghost Bath (Chine) – Entrevue!

On reçoit énormément de correspondance de la part des bands partout dans le monde, des labels et aussi des boîtes de relations publiques engagées par les bands et des fois le nombre est tellement impressionnant qu’il devient facile de se perdre dans la marre de bands suggérés et toutes les nouvelles qui les concernent.  Cependant, quand j’ai vu que Ghost Bath était originaire de la Chine et que le band nous contactait directement, je me suis dit qu’une entrevue écrite serait intéressante afin d’en connaître plus sur leur Black Metal dépressif et aussi leur scène underground.  Voici un entretien fait par courriel dans les derniers jours.

– Why is your band named “Ghost Bath”?

Ghost Bath is our own terminology to describe the action of trying to commit suicide by drowning yourself in either a bathtub or walking into a body of water such as an ocean (such as Silvia Plath once tried). We find suicide to be an emotionless and comforting release. An eternal peace.

– Who are the band members and how has it been formed?

This can not be discussed.

– What are your influences?

Silencer, Xasthur, Agalloch, Mayhem, Austere.

– You play a very dark and depressive brand of Black Metal, how is that influenced by the environment around you?

The main songwriter lives in a very cold and desolate area. Not many trees or structures, mostly plains. I think this has great influence on his writing.

– Can you play shows in China? If so, are you under scrutiny from the authorities?

We could, but we have not attempted it yet. It has been in talks for a while. I do not believe the authorities would do much.

– Are you close to doing shows abroad?

It is also possible. Still in the works.

– You want to release a physical copy of “Funeral”, but can you have distribution in your home country?

Yes. We are talking with Pest Prod China to do a fairly big release of a physical copy. They have released bands such as Thy Light.

– How was the recording process?  DYI or with a producer/engineer?

The record was made in our basement. With a single $100 guitar, a demo version of FL studio, and a cheap drum set and microphone we borrowed.

– How is the metal scene in your part of the world?  Can people listen to everything or are there bands of certain genres of metal or else?

The underground metal scene is alive and well. People can listen to what they want. The only restriction would be on the lyrics talking about the government. I can think of a certain rap artist who was executed because of his lyrics. Even talking about this is looked down upon, so we keep our identities a secret. Many metal bands are known and play live shows just fine though.

–  What’s coming up for the band (release, shows, promos, etc)?

We just released our album FUNERAL online. We plan to promote and release the physical version later this year. We have been working with a photographer and model to be used for some new artwork. We will possibly have another release before the year is over. Also we plan to sell copies of the full length FUNERAL as a special edition in the United States that comes with a wear-able vial of virgin’s blood. 春节好！
