Je ne vais pas vous faire l’historique du groupe français WEDINGOTH et encore moins celui de ma profonde connaissance de celui-ci puisque je l’ai quasiment vu se former sous mes yeux, sur les cendres d’une autre formation. Après deux albums plus que convaincants et du chamboulement au sein du line-up, bien qu’évidemment le rouage immuable qu’est Steve Segarra est lui toujours bien là, le groupe revient via «Alone In The Crowd » avec désormais Maud au chant. Tout en vous précisant qu’elle est partie depuis et que si vous allez par exemple le voir en concert, elle a été suppléée par Céline. Voici pour l’information pratique.
Avec son introduction dont je ne risque jamais d’oser prononcer le nom : « …—…« , WEDINGOTH reprend immédiatement les bonnes habitudes. D’ailleurs il continue en passant tout de suite après cette brève entrée instrumentale dans une chanson très étendue de 8.19 minutes. Elle porte le même titre que le CD, «Alone In The Crowd», et permet de transiter d’un morceau au refrain ultra accrocheur à une calme plage en passant par un encart ambiant. L’atmosphère devient plus ténébreuse dès l’arrivée de «When The World Collapses», cependant il ne faudra pas croire que cela durera. Là encore, on a en réalité droit à une piste assez longue, même davantage que celle l’ayant précédée, qui en profite pour livrer des approches toutes plus différentes les unes que les autres. On notera en particulier que quasiment arrivé à mi-parcours, le ton se fera très doux et épuré, ceci pendant deux bonnes minutes, avant une reprise puissante notamment grâce au chant poussant haut la voix.
Le quatuor n’en oublie toutefois pas sa facette Rock Progressif comme le prouve «The Painter», en la plongeant à la fois dans un fluide metal intact, peu importe le dérivé que décide d’employer WEDINGOTH sur telle ou telle portion. Sans omettre d’y inclure ce qu’il faut de soli pour accentuer cette identité et l’on en retrouve un superbe au cours de cette quatrième piste. On vient de prendre un sacré coup de pied dans la face, le groupe en profite alors pour se poser avec une délicate attention en la personne du décalé «Evolat» par rapport à ses comparses. On perdurera dans la découverte de multiples courants jusqu’au terme de la galette, s’octroyant même une sorte de bouquet final regroupant un peu tout avec «Alone In The Crowd, Part II».
Malgré tous ses changements, WEDINGOTH confirme qu’il n’a pas décidé de produire de la mauvaise musique histoire de faire quelque chose de vraiment différent. «Alone In The Crowd » est riche dans son ensemble et nous fait voyager d’un style à l’autre sans pour autant ne jamais casser l’expérience.

I am not going to recall WEDINGOTH‘s history no more than talk about my profound knowledge of this French group since I have almost seen it rise in front of my eyes from the ashes of another formation but you should know that after two albums more than convincing and several line-up changes, the group, still driven by Steve Segarra, returns via «Alone In The Crowd» with Maud on vocals, gone since and replaced by Celine.
With this introduction I could never utter the name: «… — …» WEDINGOTH immediately brings back the good old habits. The music goes through this brief instrumental right into an extensive song of 8.19 minutes. Title song of the album, «Alone In The Crowd» allows to wander from a song with an ultra catchy chorus to a quiet moment through some ambient inserts. The atmosphere becomes more murky with the arrival of «When The World Collapses», however do not believe that it will last. Here again, it is a long song, even more than the previous, which brings in many more different musical approaches. Of particular note is that almost halfway through, the tone will get very soft and sleek for a good two minutes before a powerful surge thanks to the roaring vocals.
The quartet did not however forget its Progressive Rock facet as evidenced by «The Painter» but still injected with metal fluid, depending on the derivative that decides to use WEDINGOTH on particular parts of the song. Not forgetting either to include soli to accentuate this identity it forged and I found a superb one during this fourth track. We just took a real kick in the face, so the group takes this opportunity to slow things down with the offsetting «Evolat». The album keeps exploring multiple streams even granting us with some sort of finale involving a little of all that went through on this album with «Alone In The Crowd, Part II».
Despite the line up changes, WEDINGOTH confirms that it has not decided to produce music just to do something really different. «Alone In The Crowd» is rich in all aspects and jumps from one style to another without the free fall experience.
