Aujourd’hui je vais vous parler d’un groupe, originaire de Ville-Marie dans la région du Témiscamingue, que je viens de découvrir par l’intermédiaire d’un collègue de travail, David Fournier, qui travaille également au studio Mandragore à Montréal où l’album a été enregistré par ce dernier et par Fréderik Labrie-Trépanier.
La première pièce, «Fidèles à nos Propres Démons», est une excellente pièce nous montrant bien le filon de l’album. Un hybride de deux types de voix se mêlant à merveille, l’une plus scream et l’autre clean. Le rythme de la pièce rappelle un mood plus doom métal dans une forme old-school. Que dire du solo de guitare déjanté qui alimente le bridge de la pièce? J’ADORE!!
La seconde, «Assume», commence avec force avec les percussions ressemblant à une intro de musique punk. J’aime beaucoup les variations musicales qui donnent une belle couleur à la pièce la rendant parfois agressive et d’autres fois, calme. Au début, il y a une rage intense qui nous est transmise par les percussions et vers les ¾ de la pièce, une rédemption musicale plus doom métal. C’est très intéressant comme agencement musical.
On poursuit avec «Music is a Solution» qui est beaucoup plus accessible avec ses teintes plus punk créant une belle démonstration de Sludge Metal. J’aime beaucoup les rythmes répétitifs et la batterie qui accompagne tout de manière percussif. Aussi, on entend plusieurs personnes chanter les refrains comme si c’était un chant pour tous. C’est très agréable. Le bridge encore une fois vient clasher la dynamique de la pièce à la fin, avec une petite touche de blues doomisé. Ça donne vraiment une autre dimension à la pièce.
«Pause Café» est une ballade accompagnée de scream intense. Une guitare très douce accompagnée d’un vocal qui s’égosille et s’époumone offrent une dynamique plus dramatique. C’est très intéressant comme contraste. C’est la pièce la plus courte et je l’ai senti. J’aurais voulu qu’elle dure plus longtemps.
«Enough is Enough» est ma pièce préférée. J’adore l’introduction à l’harmonica qui rappelle la Nouvelle Orléans, la chaleur et le blues. Pour ma part, l’ajout d’un instrument peu usuel dans le genre me fait vraiment tripper. Une autre chose que j’ai vraiment aimée, c’est qu’au lieu d’entendre quelqu’un screamer, on entend quelqu’un chanter en premier plan et un gueuleux qui l’accompagne en arrière plan.
En finale, «Val-Tétrault» est la pièce que je considère comme la plus doom de l’album. On est de retour avec une musique plus sombre, plus lourde et le chanteur nous beugle ça, dans un scream très profond. J’aime bien la musicalité de la guitare qui reste dans des notes plus aigües.
Personnellement, soyez assuré que c’est un groupe que je vais suivre de très près car j’aime beaucoup les différents amalgames de genre qu’ils utilisent pour nous montrer leurs couleurs. Ils sont à la fois heavy metal, doom metal, sludge metal, et tout ça avec une touche agréable de blues. C’est vraiment cool de voir qu’il y a des jeunes au Québec qui sont aussi polyvalents musicalement.
Je leur donne un gros 9/10. J’ai vraiment hâte de les voir en show.

Today I will talk about a band from Ville-Marie in Timiskaming (Quebec) I just discovered through a colleague, David Fournier, who also works at Mandragore studio in Montreal where the album was recorded by him and by Fréderik-Labrie Trépanier.
The first song, «Fidèles à nos propres démons», is an excellent composition showing us the good vein of the album. A hybrid of two types of vocals blending beautifully, one more screamy and the other clean. The rhythm of the song recalls a mood more doom metal in an old-school form. What about the crazy guitar solo that supplies the bridge? I JUST LOVE IT!!
The second, «Assume» begins strongly with the drums pounding a punk music intro. I love the musical variations that give a nice color to the song making it sometimes aggressive and sometimes calm. At first there is an intense rage that is transmitted through percussions but the last part of the song brings redemption through doom metal. This is a very interesting musical arrangement.
It continues with «Music is a Solution» which is much more accessible with its punk vibe creating a beautiful démonstration of Sludge Metal. I love the repetitive rhythms and also the drums. The sing along chorus also caught my attention. It is very nice. The bridge again comes clashing with the dynamics of the song with a touch of doomy blues. It really adds another dimension to this song.
«Pause Café» is a ballad accompanied by intense screaming. A very soft guitar accompanied by a vocal that screams and shouts offering a more dramatic dynamic. This is a very interesting contrast. This is the shortest song and I felt it. I wanted it to last longer.
«Enough is Enough» is my favorite song. I love the harmonica introduction reminding New Orleans, the heat and the blues. Adding an unconventional instrument for the genre really gets me. Another thing that I really like is that instead of hearing someone screaming, there is actually someone singing in a clean voice while the screamer is put in the background.
The album ends with «Val-Tétrault», the most doom song of the album. They are back with a darker heavier music and the singer treats us with very deep scream. I love the musicality of the guitar that stays in the highest notes.
Rest assured that this is a group that I will follow very closely because I love the different kind of fillings they use to show us their colors. They are mixing Heavy Metal, Doom Metal and Sludge metal, all this with a nice touch of blues. It is really cool to hear that there are young people in the Province of Quebec who are so musically versatile.
I give them a big 9/10. I can not wait to see them live.
