Quand je suis devenu un post-adolescent attardé au début des années 1980 (un état d’esprit qui perdure depuis), mes chums et moi regardions apparaître les nouveaux noms de groupes et on s’amusait à chercher celui qui avait le plus d’impact et on avait inventé «Crusted Vomit» qui, selon mes recherches, n’aurait jamais été utilisé.
Quand j’ai vu qu’il y a un groupe en Finlande qui s’appelle MÖRBID VOMIT, je me suis dit que c’était un collage de mots qui ne fait pas de sens car du vomi ne peut être morbide mais que ça se rapprochait suffisamment de «Crusted Vomit» pour que j’aille écouter ça, juste en mémoire de…
Je suis bien content que mes idées farfelues me permettent de naviguer à travers toutes les promos que je reçois et me fassent découvrir des groupes qui valent la peine d’être entendus. Surtout que ces gars-là ne jouent pas simplement de leurs instruments. Ils se présentent plutôt ainsi:
Rösti – The voice of The True Lord, hellpowered shreds
Löndgren – Tormenting the stringed guitar-like Angel of God
Hönski – Horrible amount of low-end inserted in the anuses of the children of God
(Possibly) Bestial Akitatör – Beater of skin belonging to the celestial worshippers
Une chose que vous devez savoir par contre est que ce n’est pas du matériel neuf mais en fait une compilation des quatre pièces de leur démo de 2012 suivies des quatre de leur EP «I Breathe Hell» (2013), le tout bonifié d’une reprise d’une composition de Ghost B.C. pour finir le tout.
Les quatre premières, comme je disais, proviennent du démo et on sent immédiatement leur allégeance. Le son, la rythmique, les riffs, le vocal, tout le package est là pour offrir du death metal suédois de la vieille école.
«Blood Shall Be Shed» commence dans le tapis et la première chose que nous lance The Voice of The True Lord, dans le growl caractéristique au style, est «Lucifer by my side». Le mélange fast tempo/mid tempo en fait une pièce parfaite pour le headbanging. «From The Unknown»présente le même genre de composition qui permet de bien cerner leur allégeance caractérisée principalement par ce son de guitares. «Embodiment Of Death» se permet une petite excursion death&roll alors que «Another One To Die» a un côté black.
Avec «Engulfed By The Plague» (ma préférée), on entre dans leur EP et je sens immédiatement une différence. On a une chanson qui devient tout à coup plus puissante (merci à la production affinée du EP) et ça m’a fait penser que tout ce qui manquait était une mélodie épique de claviers pour en faire une superbe blackened death.
Les pièces du EP gardent d’ailleurs ce côté plus sombre que j’ai senti dès «Another One To Die». Ça permet de voir l’évolution de leur son et de me dire que cette direction est positive.
«Fuck The Dead» devrait ravir les amateurs de groove mid-tempo et les vertèbres cervicales devraient s’en rappeler.
Ils terminent le tout avec une reprise de Ghost B.C. qui s’avère un peu inutile dans mon cas car je ne connaissais pas la version originale et je considère que peu importe si leur version est près ou non de l’originale, bien exécutée ou bâclée, je m’en fous pas mal car, pour moi, c’est la pièce la moins bonne de l’album.
Bien que MÖRBID VOMIT jouent une musique qui est caractéristique du death metal suédois de la vieille école tel Entombed, Dismember et autres Unleashed, ils le font avec assez de personnalité pour que ça ne sonne pas comme une vulgaire copie. Je suis pas mal certain que les fans de ce genre vont triper en entendant cet album car cet un très bon album et il ne contient aucune pièce servant de remplissage à part la reprise de Ghost B.C.. Je vous encourage donc à vous le procurer et surtout à rester à l’affût de leur prochain matériel.

When I became a retarded post-teenager in the early 1980s (a state of mind which has lasted), my buddies and I watched groups appear with a new kind of monikers that intended to be more disturbing or disgusting and we had fun looking for the one that had the most impact and we thought that «Crusted Vomit» would be a pretty cool name but according to my research, it was never taken.
When I saw that there is a band in Finland called MÖRBID VOMIT, I thought it was a collage of words that does not make sense since vomit can not be morbid but it is close enough to «Crusted Vomit» to go listen to it, even if it is just for old time sake…
I’m glad that my crazy ideas allow me to navigate through all the promos I receive and make me discover groups that are worth to be heard, moreover since these guys do not simply play their instruments as the liner notes presents them as:

A thing you should know about this album is that it is not new material but in fact a compilation of four songs from their 2012 demo followed by the four songs of their EP «I Breathe Hell» ( 2013), to which was added a cover of a Ghost BC’s song to close the album.
The first four songs, as I said, come from the demo and we feel their allegiance immediately. The sound, rhythm, riffs, voice, in fact, the whole package is here to offer old school Swedish death metal.
«Blood Shall Be Shed» starts full speed ahead and the first thing The Voice of The True Lord shouts, in the characteristic growling style, is «Lucifer by my side». The mix of fast and mid tempo makes it a perfect song for headbanging. «From The Unknown» has the same kind of composition that allows to clearly identify their allegiance mainly characterized by the sound of guitars. «Embodiment Of Death» allows a little excursion in death & roll while «Another One To Die» has a somber depressing nearly blackened aura.
With «Engulfed By The Plague» (my favorite of the album), we enter the EP part and I feel a difference immediately. This song has a more powerful vibe (thank you to the refined production of the EP) and it made me think that all that was missing was an epic keyboard melody to make it a superb blackened death .
The songs that follow also keep this darker side that I felt in «Another One To Die». It allows to see the evolution of their sound and tell me that this direction is positive.
«Fuck The Dead» should delight mid-tempo groove enthusiasts and cervical vertebrae should pay the price for it.
The album finishes off with a cover of Ghost B.C. which, for myself, is a bit useless because I do not know the original version and no matter if their version is close or not to the original, well executed or sloppy, I do not give a damn because, for me, this is the worst song of the album.
Although MÖRBID VOMIT play music that is caracteristic of the old school Swedish death metal in the vein of Entombed, Dismember and other Unleashed, they do it with enough personality so it does not sound like a vulgar copy. I am pretty sure that the fans of this genre will get wasted on hearing this album because there is no fillers (except for that Ghost B.C. cover). I strongly suggest that you get your hand on this album and stay tuned for their next release.
