Je dois le dire en commençant. Jusqu’à date, cet album est ma découverte de l’année. Depuis que je l’ai reçu, je l’écoute à tous les jours. Faut dire que j’ai déjà un énorme faible pour la musique industrielle, et surtout quand cela provient de l’Allemagne. Ce groupe, débuté comme projet solo par Max Meyer, a évolué en 2009 pour devenir une formation complète et a fait paraître le EP «Willst Du sterben» et en 2011, leur 1er album «Kannst Du sterben». «Revenge of the Antichrist» est paru en Mai 2014.
Je me demande pourquoi je n’ai pas connu ce groupe avant ça. Ils ont tous ce que j’aime dans la musique industrial metal: une musicalité agressive, de l’électronique, des voix graves, des pièces plus relax, des pièces parfaites pour danser ou pour simplement se motiver. Bon je vais arrêter de m’exciter le poil des jambes puis je vais commencer par le début. L’album contient 16 pièces, dont 13 sont des morceaux originaux; les trois dernières sont des remix.
La première pièce a un son très électro accompagné de beat percussifs, voire tribal. J’ai adoré l’intro graduelle qui s’enchaîne à merveille avec ce qui nous attend. Le chanteur a une voix très criarde, mais pas agaçante. Il m’a rappelé la voix du chanteur de Psyclon Nine mélangée à celle de Marilyn Manson. C’est un mix très intéressant. On enchaîne ensuite avec une pièce d’électronique à la vieux Terminal Choice. Par contre, cette fois-ci, sa voix est beaucoup plus clean, un peu comme Andy LaPlegua, de Combichrist.
La pièce que j’ai le plus aimée est la troisième «Astharat». Le beat est juste trop bon à mon goût. La musicalité de la percussion me fait totalement tripper. Elle est vraiment entraînante. Pour continuer sur une bonne note, les pièces qui suivent sont toutes aussi entraînante les unes que les autres. On reconnaît les influences de Marilyn Manson, Combichrist et Psyclon Nine qui, toutes mélangées donnent Devil-M. À partir de «From Birth to Death», ça devient plus metal mais ça ne perd pas cette drive qui donne le goût de danser.
Vers la fin de l’album, avec «Love is not available», on change totalement d’univers et cela devient très calme. Au début, je croyais que mon lecteur avait changer tout seul de band et que j’écoutais le dernier album de Combichrist. Heureusement pour moi, mon lecteur n’est pas possédé. Dans les dernières pièces de l’album, ils nous démontrent un côté plus tendre et moins dur. C’est excellent quand même, car oui, on aime la musique qui réveillerait un cadavre, mais c’est bien d’être polyvalent et de mettre un peu de douceur dans ce monde de fou. La pièce «I am God» amène la très belle voix de Sonja Langenfeld. C’est une belle pièce douce et calme, enrobée de mélodie mélancolique.
L’album se termine avec des remix de «Apokrypĥa», de «Siddhartha Gautama» et «Rebirth», fait par des groupes qui sont eux aussi Allemand: Centhron, Blackest Light et Grausame Töchter. Elles sont toutes intéressantes et s’inscrivent bien dans cette habitude de se faire des remixes dans le monde de l’électro.
Pour ma part, c’est mon coup de cœur de l’année en tant qu’album Industrial. Je l’adore du début à la fin. Je ne me tanne pas de l’écouter. Aller voir leur site pour écouter et acheter leur album. C’est un groupe qui s’auto-produit, donc ça vaut encore plus la peine de faire un détour vers eux.

I must say it right from the start. So far, this album is my discovery of the year. Since Lex sent it to me, I spin it every day. I must say that I have a huge crush for industrial music, especially when it comes from Germany. This band, started in 2006 as a solo project, evolved to a full line up in 2009 and since then released the EP «Willst Du sterben» and in 2011, their first album «Kannst Du sterben». «Revenge of the Antichrist» came out in May 2014.
I wonder why I have not heard of this band before. They have all that I like in industrial metal music: aggressive musicality, electronics, warm deep voice, more relaxed parts, songs perfect for dancing or simply to pump up ourselves. Well I’ll stop exciting myself and start from the beginning. The album contains 16 songs, 13 of which are original tracks; the last three are remixes .
The first song is an electronically driven track accompanied by percussive beat that are even tribal at times. I loved the gradual intro that connects perfectly with what lies ahead. The singer has a shrieky voice, but not annoying. It reminded me of the voice of the singer of Psyclon Nine mixed with that of Marilyn Manson. It’s a very interesting mix. Then follows an electronic song reminescent of some old Terminal Choice. By cons, this time, his voice is much more clean, a bit like Andy LaPlegua from Combichrist.
The song I loved the most is the third, «Astharat». The beat is just too good. The percussions nearly put me in a trance. It’s really catchy. To continue on a good note , the songs that follow are all as catchy from one to the other. We recognize the influences of Marilyn Manson, Psyclon Nine and Combichrist and that, all mixed together, gives Devil-M. There’s a more metal side to the songs from «From Birth to Death» and on till we get to the last third of the album.
So towards the end of the album, with «Love is not available» it gets in a totally different musical universe and it becomes very quiet. At first I thought my music player had shuffled to some other band by itself and that I was now listening to the last Combichrist album. Fortunately for me, my player is not possessed by some devilish bot. It’s just that in the last songs of the album, they show a more tender and softer side. This is again excellent anyway, because yes, we like music that would wake a dead body, but it’s good to be versatile and bring a little sweetness in this crazy world. The song «I am God» brings the nice vocals by Sonja Langenfeld. It’s a beautiful, soft and quiet song, coated with melancholic melody.
The album ends with remixes of «Apokrypĥa», «Siddhartha Gautama» and «Rebirth», by bands that are also German: Centhron, Blackest Light and Grausame Töchter. These are good remixes that fit perfectly in this trend of doing remixes in the electromusic world.
For me, it’s my thrill of the year in the Industrial music category. I love it from beginning to end. I don’t get tired of listening to it. Visit their website to listen and buy their album. This is a band that is self-produced, so it’s worth making a detour for them.
