Qui est Black Tusk?
Black Tusk, c’est un band originaire de Géorgie aux USA qui porte le nom d’une roche volcanique. Ce band de Sludge Metal, formé en 2005, avoue avoir quelques inspirations du genre Punk Rock, ce qui leur donne un style un peu plus particulier.
Quelques mois seulement après la naissance du band, ils sortaient déjà leur premier EP, When Kingdoms Fall. Puis leur premier album, The Fallen Kingdom, sorti finalement en 2007.
Le videoclip de leur #1 Truth Untold est simplement hilarant. Le concept est super! Et on voit clairement que Pabst a commandité le clip! Voici le clip en question :
Black Tusk – T.C.B.T
Le nouvel album de Black Tusk, « T.C.B.T« , est le premier album paru depuis le décès de leur bassiste original. Jonathan Athon est mort à l’hopital, suite à de grave blessures dû à un accident de moto survenue le 9 novembre 2014. En fait, un mois seulement après la mort de Jonathan, le 10 décembre 2014, le band confirmait déjà une tournée pour laquelle Corey Barhorst prendrait le relais à la basse.
Tout d’abord, je voudrais porter votre attention sur le fait que que malgré la mort de Jonathan, on peut remarquer 3 voix sur cet album, une habitude qu’ils n’ont heureusement pas changée! Puis, ils ont misé d’avantage sur un style Hardcore pour cet album qui est clairement fait pour les Moshpits déchainés !
À ce propos, je dois avouer avoir développé un coup de cœur pour la chanson « Scalped« . L’into me rappèle le groupe Amebix. Alors voici la chanson en question :
Cependant, la première chanson de l’album est malheureusement un big NO pour moi. J’étais plutôt déçu par le fait que la première chanson soit en spoken words. Sans oublier la couverture de l’album qui est décevante comparément aux précédentes.
En résumé, c’est un bel hommage à Jonathan Athon et les habitudes du band restent inchangées. L’album est, mise à part sa première chanson et sa couverture, satisfaisant!

Who is Black Tusk?
Named after a volcanic rock, Black Tusk is a Sludge Metal band. Formed in Georgia State in 2005, the band confesses to have been inspired by Punk Rock, which adds that particular something to their sound.
Only months after they got together, Black Tusk was releasing their first EP, When Kingdoms Fall. Their first full album, The Fallen Kingdom, came out in 2007.
The music video to their #1 Truth Untold is nothing short of hilarious! Awesome concept! It is also obvious that Pabst beer endorsed the vid! Here it is:
Black Tusk – T.C.B.T
Their new album, T.C.B.T., is the first one released since the passing of the former bass player. Jonathan Aton died due to several injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. Still, a month after his death on December 10th 2014, the band was announcing a tour with newcomer Corey Barhorst on bass duties.
Despite Jonathan’s absence, the band has kept their 3-voice way of doing things on this album, something that has luckily not changed! Corey clearly has a voice that fits in perfectly and he brought a nice touch to the band. Plus, they have gone for a more Hardcore approach on their new release, something fans of the moshpits will no doubt appreciate!
I clearly have a kick on Scalped. The song’s intro is reminiscent of Amebix.
That being said, the album opener is a big NO for me. I was disappointed by the fact that the first track on the album was a spoken word “song”. The album cover is also a bit of a let-down for me when I compare it to their previous records. It seems like there’s less of the artistic touch there was. All though I can understand that it symbolizes the beginning of a new chapter for Black Tusk, I miss Agatha.
In short, it is a touching tribute to Jonathan Athon, and the band’s way of doing things in the past has remained. Notwithstanding the first song and the album artwork, I’d say this opus is pretty satisfying and the band clearly made a good decision when they picked the new bassist!
