Burning The Oppressor, ce nom vous dit quelque chose? Je l’espère bien! Même si on a eu l’impression que le groupe avait pris une pause de quelques années, ils sont toujours bien en vie et de retour avec ce nouvel album du nom de Bloodshed! Nouvel album avec un nouveau Line up, est-ce que Burning The Oppressor saura nous livrer ce à quoi on a été habitué par le passé?
L’album se lance sur une intro glauque d’un peu plus d’une minute qui fait rapidement suite à cette bombe métalcore québécoise comme on en entend trop peu. Bien que l’on soit habitué à entendre du bon son de la part de Burning The Oppressor, il est ici, indéniable, que le nouveau line-up y est pour quelque chose sur le résultat total de l’album.
La qualité de la production de cet album est d’une jouissance auditive qui nous fait rapidement oublier que nous écoutons ici un groupe québécois et non un produit américain. Je me suis surpris, par occasion, à me méprendre entre cet album et les meilleurs moments musicaux de Fear Factory ou de Pantera. Ou encore du bon vieux Despised Icon. Il est impossible de se méprendre sur la voix, mais musicalement? Vraiment, ici, on fesse fort!
L’intensité de l’album ne faiblit à nulle part. On a un travail équilibré tant au niveau du style qu’au mix studio sur l’ensemble du groupe. Une batterie avec un bassdrum qui frappe sans mentir, des guitares avec un son qui se laisse porter et qui nous fait serrer le poing. Et que dire de la Voix! Lourde, profonde, mais claire à la fois. J’ai beau chercher pour critiquer, je ne peux pas. Le travail est juste parfait globalement.
Niveau chansons, très metalcore, mais ne misant pas que sur ce style, on peut facilement voir des influences de death mélodique par endroit.
Je crois que je pourrais en dire longtemps sur l’album mais pour celui-ci, je ne crois pas qu’il a autant besoin de se faire vendre. C’est ce genre de produit qui est auto-gagnant. Si vous aviez qu’un seul album metalcore a acheter pour 2017? C’est celui-ci, sans l’ombre d’un doute! Bon ok, nous ne sommes qu’en Mai. Il reste encore 7 mois à l’année. Mais la barre est placée haute. Très haute!

Burning The Oppressor, does that name ring a bell? I hope so! Even though we’ve had the impression that the band took a break for a few years, they’re still alive and they’re back with a new album, Bloodshed! With this new album and new line up, will they deliver what we have been used to hear from them in the past ?
The album starts with a creepy intro that lasts a little more than one minute, which is quickly followed by this metalcore bomb from quebec, the kind we don’t hear enough. Although we’re used to hear good sound from Burning The Oppressor, it is undeniable that the new lineup has a role in the total result of the albm.
The production quality of this album is a hearing delight which quickly makes us forget that we’re listening to a band from Quebec rather than an american product. Occasionally, I surprised myself confusing this album with Fear Factory or Pantera’s best musical moments, or some good old Despised Icon. It’s impossible to be mistaken about the voice, but musically? We’re really dealing with hard striking here!
The intensity of the album does not weaken anywhere. The work is balanced, regarding the style as well as the studio mix on the whole band. A drum whose kick strikes without lying, guitars with a sound that lets itself be carried et makes us clench the fist. And what about the voice! Heavy, deep, but clear at the same time. Even though I search for something to to criticize, I can’t. The work is just globally perfect.
Regarding the songs, very metalcore but not aiming for this one style only. We can easily hear melodic death metal influences in some places.
I believe I could say a lot on the album but for this one, I think it won’t need to get sold. It’s the kind of product that is self-winner. If you had only one metalcore album to buy for 2017, it’s this one, without a shadow of a doubt. Ok, it’s only the month of may, there’s still 7 months to go this year. But the bar is set high. Very high!
