N’ayant point connu l’EP d’EYES WIDE SHOT sorti en 2013, je découvre directement le quatuor français avec son album «Back From Hell», dont je vais vous évoquer d’emblée le concept, car il y en a un derrière allant plus loin qu’un simple enchainement de tracks.
Effectivement, avant d’entrer dans le vif du sujet, sachez que ce disque conte une histoire, à savoir celle d’une personne désirant intégrer le si attractif et perfide show-business. La pochette nous le démontrant justement, avec ce même gaillard ayant un sacré retour en bouche de tout ce qu’il a avalé de faux-semblants dans ce milieu. Je connais particulièrement bien ce dernier puisque c’est mon domaine et effectivement tout n’est que vent et trahisons, mais en réalité chaque univers est ainsi et reflète juste ce qu’est la vie tout court. Espérons donc que cela puisse faire réfléchir certain(e)s idéalisant ce monde du spectacle, qui rince mentalement jusqu’à plus soif un maximum de gens en coulisses et sur scène. Pourtant, nombreux seront ceux à ne même pas s’en apercevoir, alors que ce ne sont pas des couteaux qui sont plantés dans leur dos, mais des haches, des katanas, la lance de Rahan…
Et bien EYES WIDE SHOT c’est un peu tout ça, secoué dans un bocal de Metalcore comme «Waiting In Vain» et «A Glimpse Of Me» le prouvent. Cependant, on dénote également quelques touches électroniques et celles-ci auront droit de se faire plus importantes lors de l’introduction de «My Redemption», ainsi qu’en début de dernier tiers. Les effets deviennent à partir de là de plus en plus présents, mais en agissant par de brefs passages, comme au départ de «Lost For You». Tandis qu’entre deux tentatives très marquées, on replonge dans une puissance rock aux accents Metal.
Le band n’en oublie cependant pas de parfois laisser retomber la sauce, comme au cours de la chanson «Back From Hell», afin de mieux la faire remonter par la suite. Il sait également proposer des refrains assez catchy, particulièrement celui du titre «Under The Knife», que l’on pourra aisément reprendre en chœurs. Ceci sans omettre les «oh oh oh oh oh» de «See What I’ve Seen». On imagine déjà la puissance fédératrice que ce passage devrait posséder en concert, avec un public s’éclatant dessus. Mais quelque part celui que l’on retiendra le plus n’est autre que le final du CD, «Watch Me». L’ambiance se démarquant grandement de ce que l’on a entendu jusqu’ici avec EYES WIDE SHOT. Cela pourra d’ailleurs ne pas plaire à une frange des auditrices/eurs ayant adoré les 9 pistes précédentes. Pour ma part ça ne marche pas ainsi, au contraire même. Je ne peux pas affirmer qu’il s’agit de ma favorite de l’album, car ce serait réducteur, mais évidemment son atmosphère nouvelle fait qu’elle me colle plus en tête. D’ailleurs, je vous en mets une version en spectacle ici bas bien que, comme mentionné, elle ne représente pas le son typique d’EYES WIDE SHOT.
Puissant et à la fois accrocheur par certains passages prévus spécialement pour ça, «Back From Hell» nous narre un parcours symbolique de notre monde. Souhaitons juste que les membres d’EYES WIDE SHOT ne deviennent pas eux aussi des escrocs de ce milieu.

I did not know about the EP EYES WIDE SHOT released in 2013, I just discovered the French quartet with its album «Back From Hell», from which I will tell you from the outset the concept, because there is one behind the album. It goes beyond a simple gathering of tracks.
Indeed, before entering the heart of the matter, know that this record tells a story, namely that of a person wishing to integrate the so attractive and perfidious world of showbusiness. The cover artwork depicts it precisely, with this same fellow having a backwave of all that he swallowed in this world. I know the latter particularly well since it is my domain and indeed everything is only wind and betrayal, but in reality every universe is such and just reflects what life is all about. Let’s hope that this can make some people give it some thoughts before idealizing the big world of showbusiness, which drains mentally a maximum of people behind the scenes and on stage. However, many will never even notice it, while they have not only knives going for their back, but axes, katanas even Conan’s sword…
Well EYES WIDE SHOT is a bit of all this, served in a mix of Metalcore like «Waiting In Vain» and «A Glimpse Of Me» prove it. However, there are also some electronics involved and these will have the right to be more important in the introduction to «My Redemption», as well as for the last third. The electronic effects become more and more present from there, but acting by brief passages, like the start of «Lost For You».
The band does not forget to mellow it down sometimes, as in the song «Back From Hell», to come back ever stronger. It also knows how to propose rather catchy refrains, especially the one from «Under The Knife», which has a big sing along potential. This without omitting the «oh oh oh oh oh» from «See What I’ve Seen». We can already imagine the federating power that this passage should have in concert. But the song I will remember most is none other than the final of the album, «Watch Me». The atmosphere of this one differs greatly from what we have heard so far with EYES WIDE SHOT. This may not appeal to a bunch of listeners who loved the previous nine tracks. For my part, it does not work that way, on the contrary. I can not say that this is my favorite of the album, because it would be reductive, but obviously its new atmosphere makes it stick more into my mind.
Powerful and at the same time catchy by certain passages especially planned for that, «Back From Hell» tells us a symbolic journey of our world. We just wish that the members of EYES WIDE SHOT will not also become crooks in their world.
