Daedalus et Idrys de la formation Death Metal Mélodique Daedalean Complex (qui annonce sur sa page Facebook, la sortie de son 4ième album en 2017, à suivre…) ont décidé de créer un groupe Industriel/ Aggrotech/ EBM nommé TOXIC AEON. Je ne peux cacher que j’ai eu un coup de cœur instantané. C’est LE style de musique que je préfère écouter dans la vie de tous les jours. Il y a plus d’un an donc, j’assistais au premier spectacle de TOXIC AEON, au Temps Partiel à Québec. Depuis, j’ai patienté afin de pouvoir entendre une nouvelle chanson et un album. Je tiens à remercier personnellement Daedalus de m’avoir permis d’écouter une de leur pièce en pré-écoute pour me faire attendre tout ce temps. Le 3 juillet dernier, ils ont sorti une vidéo sur youtube, «God Bless Amerika». La vidéo a été tournée par le fantastique Alexis Bourdages-Chabot. Le 30 juillet 2016, à ma grande surprise, je vois sur leur page facebook que leur album «Synthetic Senses» va sortir en octobre prochain et en même temps, je reçois le dit album. Je me suis transformée en petite fille qui s’en allait déballer ses cadeaux de Noël. Et oh surprise!! Je vois mon nom dans les remerciements. Je prends donc le temps ici de remercier personnellement le groupe de m’avoir inclus dans les remerciements dans la pochette de l’album. Ça me fait un immense plaisir de contribuer à sa publicité car il fait de l’excellente musique et je lui souhaite d’aller très loin comme plusieurs groupes du Québec qui sont reconnus internationalement. Donc, après plus d’une vingtaine d’écoute en boucle, il est peut-être temps que je me calme et que je vous parle de cet album.
L’album commence avec une petite intro très intéressante, «Loading In Progress». Elle me rappelle un peu le Ministry des années 1990-2000, mais avec une petite touche de symphonie électronique. On enchaine par la suite avec la pièce «Dermafix» qui sera parfaite pour enflammer un plancher de danse. Un moment donné, on entend une fille nous parler en russe ce qui rend la pièce intrigante. Cette composition est très complète musicalement. On peut distinguer plusieurs sonorités différentes.
Dans la suivante, «Down the Drain», je reconnais les influences musicales des groupes Dawn of Ashes ou Psyclon Nine. C’est une pièce un peu plus rythmée et agressive que la précédente. Il y a quelques bridges musicaux qui donnent une agréable variation musicale, à l’écoute. «God Bless Amerika» n’est pas l’une de mes pièces préférées côté musical, mais j’aime beaucoup les paroles. Il y a un petit quelque chose de Covenant ou de Blutengel dans la voix clean de Daedalus. Une belle voix clean et virile, on adore toujours cela. C’est dans cette pièce que l’on peut entendre la majeure partie du registre vocal du chanteur. Parfois le vocal est très clean, parfois c’est un scream et parfois, c’est une voix très grave. Encore une fois, on entend une femme parler. Elle revient souvent tout au long de l’album. La pièce est musicalement plus smooth, tout en gardant beaucoup d’énergie. Vous pouvez voir la vidéo sur youtube. Visuellement, elle est très intéressante.
Pas le temps de niaiser, ça repart avec «The Machine Dies». La musicalité est pour moi un peu plus électronique et j’entend bien les influences plus EBM que Dark Industriel. Les paroles de cette pièce raconte l’histoire d’une personne qui regrette d’avoir construit une machine sans émotion qui devient son esclave tout en réalisant que jouer à Dieu avec des machines mènera au remplacement de l’humanité. Mine de rien, ce sont des paroles qui peuvent nous faire réfléchir sur l’avenir. La pièce suivante, «Sea of Lust» est l’une de mes préférées. La petite mélodie pianotée au début m’a vraiment fait accrocher. Elle se contraste très bien avec le fond musical plus percussif. Encore une fois, la voix clean de Daedalus est magnifique.
La pièce-titre de l’album, «Synthetic Senses», est selon moi l’une des meilleures. La pièce est progressive et il y a beaucoup de subtilités dans les choix sonores. Elle garde plus ou moins toujours la même symphonie mais les variations musicales sont palpables. C’est la pièce la plus longue de l’album. L’avant-dernière pièce, «Distant Dreams», est une pièce beaucoup plus douce et lente que les autres. Je trouve personnellement qu’elle donne une perspective plus DarkWave dans les moments smooth de la pièce. J’adore le clash musical entre le refrain et le reste de la pièce. Ironiquement, la dernière pièce, «Let’s Play Hard» est la première que j’ai écouté de l’album car c’est elle que mon lecteur a lancé quand j’y ai ouvert l’album. Dès les premières notes, je me suis mise à danser sur place. C’est ma pièce préférée. Elle est entraînante et elle a de belles variations musicales. C’est vraiment une pièce sur laquelle j’aimerais beaucoup me défouler sur un plancher de danse.
L’attente valait vraiment le coup. Je suis vraiment très satisfaite de cet album. Pour ceux qui aiment ce style, c’est parfait pour écouter un peu partout dans ses déplacements. Ce sont des pièces qui se glissent bien entre ses chansons favorites du même genre. En spectacle, ils sont également excellents et ils sont accompagnés par des musiciens de scène. Visuellement, ce n’est pas désagréable.
En terminant, j’ai une petite interrogation. Je possède une pièce de TOXIC AEON que je n’ai pas entendue sur l’album. Est-ce qu’il y a déjà du matériel pour un prochain album? Est ce qu’on peut entendre plus de matériel en spectacle? Je vais répondre à ces questions une prochaine fois. Disons, après le 9 octobre 2016 car j’assisterai à son spectacle à l’Alizé de Montréal qui mettra à l’affiche TOXIC AEON, Left Side Neighbour, DJ Harshangel, DJ Necrotik et DJ Ulcère Nucléaire. Pour ceux qui ont envie de découvrir de la bonne musique Indus, ça va être une belle soirée.

Daedalus and Idrys from the Melodic Death Metal group Daedalean Complex (which announced on its Facebook page, the release of its 4th album for 2017, stay tuned…) decided to create a group of Industrial /Aggrotech /EBM named TOXIC AEON. I can not hide that I got excited. This is THE style of music I like the most to listen to in everyday life. It has been now more than a year since I attended the first show of TOXIC AEON in their hometown and since then I have waited to hear a new song and an album. I want to personally thank Daedalus for allowing me to pre-listen to one song. On July 3rd was released a video on youtube for «God Bless Amerika». The video was shot by the fantastic Alexis Bourdages-Chabot. On July 30th, to my pleasure, I saw on its Facebook page that its album «Synthetic Senses» will come out in October and at the same time, I received the said album. I turned a little girl who was going to unwrap her Christmas presents. And surprise surprise!! I saw my name in the credits. So I take the time here to personally thank the group for including me in the acknowledgments. It gives me great pleasure to contribute to spread its name around because it makes great music and I wish TOXIC AEON to go very far as many groups in Quebec which are recognized internationally. So, after more than twenty listening in a loop, it is perhaps time that I calm down and talk to you about this album.
The album starts with a short but very interesting intro, «Loading In Progress». It reminds me of the Ministry from the years 1990-2000, but with a touch of electronic symphony. Follows «Dermafix» that will be perfect to ignite a dance floor. There is a girl talking in Russian which makes the song a bit intriguing. This composition is very full musically. I can distinguish several different sounds.
In «Down the Drain» I recognize the musical influences of Dawn of Ashes and Psyclon Nine. It is a composition a little more rhythmic and aggressive than the previous. There are some musical bridges that give a pleasant musical variation. «God Bless Amerika» is not one of my favorite musically, but I love the lyrics. There is a little something of Kovenant or Blutengel in Daedalus‘ clean vocal. I love a nice clean and manly voice. This song shows most of the vocal range of the singer. Sometimes the voice is very clean, and he can also scream or use a deep voice. Again, we hear a woman. It often recurs throughout the album. The song is musically smoother, but still keeping much energy. You can see the video on youtube. Visually, it is very interesting.
No time for fooling around, the pumping beats are back with «The Machine Dies» which is a little more electronic and I understood well the influences more EBM than Dark Industrial. The lyrics of this song tell the story of a person who regrets having built an emotionless machine that becomes his slave while realizing that playing God with machines lead to the replacement of mankind. These are words that can make us think about the future. The next song, «Sea of Lust» is one of my favorites. The piano melody at the start of the song is what caught me. It contrasts well with the more percussive background music. Again, Daedalus‘ clean vocal is beautiful.
The title track of the album, «Synthetic Senses» is in my opinion one of the best. The composition is progressive and there are a lot of subtleties in the sound choice. It keeps more or less always the same symphony but musical variations are palpable. This is the longest track of the album. The penultimate song, «Distant Dreams» is a song much softer and slower than the others. I personally find it gives a more DarkWave perspective in smooth moments of the song. I love the musical clash between the chorus and the rest of the song. Ironically, the last song, «Let’s Play Hard» is the first that I listened to the album for it is this one my drive launched when I opened the album. From the first notes, I started to dance on the spot. This is my favorite song. It is catchy and has good musical variations. It really is a song on which I would love to let off steam on the dance floor.
The wait was worth it. I am really pleased with this album. For those who like this style, it is perfect for listening whle transiting from places. Just mix them with your favorite songs of the same kind for the perfect playlist. Live on stage,, they are also excellent and they are accompanied by live musicians. Visually, it is not unpleasant.
In closing, I have a small question. I have a song of TOXIC AEON I did not hear on the album. Is it that there is already material ready for a next album? Can we hear more material during shows? I should be able to answer these questions next time. Maybe after October 9th 2016 because I will be attending its show at the Alizé in Montreal that will present TOXIC AEON with Left Side Neighbour, DJ Harshangel, DJ Necrotik and DJ Ulcère Nucléaire. For those who want to discover good Indus music, mark the date on your calendar, it will be a nice evening.
