Salut à tous, aujourd’hui, je vais vous parler d’un album paru il y a plus d’un an mais quand je découvre un album qui me plait, je me dis que ça vaut tout de même la peine de vous en parler au cas où il serait passé à côté du radar dans votre cas aussi. Remarquez que c’est quand même le plus récent album du groupe Métal industriel de Zagreb en Croatie, MASS HYPNOSIS, un trio formé en 2006 et composé de Leo, Kodin et Ela.
L’album commence tout en douceur dans une ambiance très lugubre avec un vocal incantatoire qui s’amplifie sur un fond de distorsion. La liaison entre l’introduction et la deuxième pièce, «God Complex», présente une coupure un peu trop drastique qui m’a réellement dérangée. Il manquait là de fondu musical. On entend vraiment un «Jump Cut» musical. Par contre, «God Complex» est totalement démente. Elle commence avec une musicalité très industrielle puis ensuite, les instruments électriques embarquent et elle se complète avec une voix très métal. À la première écoute, je trouvais que la voix n’allait pas bien avec le genre, mais finalement, j’ai changé d’idée.
La troisième pièce, «Matrix of Power», est totalement différente. Elle est beaucoup plus hardcore que métal. Ils jouent encore très légèrement avec les sons électroniques, sans que ce soit trop.
La 4ième pièce, «Address to the Nation», est une pièce où l’on entend différentes portions de discours avec en fond musical, une musique d’ambiance de synthétiseur.
La pièce suivante déménage solide. Je me demandais si j’écoutais le même album ou un autre groupe. «Trigger Terms» est une pièce qui porte très bien son nom. Ils ont déclenché le drum à cent milles à l’heure. Les percussions dans cette pièce sont beaucoup plus présentes que dans les autres pièces. C’est dans ce genre de pièce que l’on reconnaît leur influence métal, voir deathcore métal.
La 6ième pièce est sans aucun doute ma pièce préférée. «Inevitable Disaster (Reactor)», est la pièce qui se rapproche le plus de ce que je connais du Métal Industriel. Dans cette pièce, on reconnaît très bien les influences des pionniers de ce style, Ministry.
La pièce qui suit, «Message from the Advanced Intelligence», est encore une pièce d’ambiance avec beaucoup de son synthétiques et électroniques. Je l’ai malheureusement trouvé beaucoup trop courte. Il y avait des variations très intéressantes comme si l’on était en train d’enregistrer quelqu’un qui changeait les canaux d’un téléviseur.
Plus j’avance vers la fin de l’album, plus le genre passe du métal-industriel à l’industriel métal. Il y a beaucoup plus de sons électroniques qui accompagnent les instruments électriques que lors des premières pièces mais ça n’a absolument rien pour réduire mon intérêt au contraire. Si l’on prend la pièce «Monotheist», l’introduction est un enregistrement d’ambiance puis quand le chanteur se met à hurler, les instruments embarquent eux aussi. Le drum se transforme en distorsion musicale qui ressemble au wave du dubstep. Une autre pièce qui m’a marqué de la sorte, est «Codex Alimentarius».
Je n’ai pas beaucoup de défaut à dire sur cet album. Il y a une fois que j’ai trouvé que la voix n’allait pas du tout avec le style musical. J’avais l’impression que ça faussait. L’autre défaut est la longueur des pièces. J’ai trouvé que certaines étaient beaucoup trop courtes. Une chance que l’album à quatorze pièces, car il passerait trop vite. Pour les trippeux de Métal qui cherchent un style différent, je leur conseille de découvrir cette formation. Ils ont plusieurs sonorité de métal différente, ce qui les rend très intéressant à l’écoute.
MASS HYPNOSIS est un groupe qui est socialement et politiquement engagé. On le reconnaît très bien par les titres des pièces et leur agressivité musicale. Si vous avez embarqué dans leur musique, aller lire les textes, pour ceux qui ne comprennent pas les paroles en screaming.

Hi everyone! Today I will talk about an album released more than a year ago but when I find an album that I like, I think it is well worth it to present it to you in case it would have passed under the radar for you too. Note that it is not that old and this is still the newest album of the industrial metal band from Zagreb in Croatia, MASS HYPNOSIS, a trio formed in 2006 and consisting of Leo, Kodin and Ela.
The album starts very gently but in a very gloomy atmosphere with incantatory chant that are growing on a distorted background. The connection between the introduction and the second song, «God Complex» has a too drastic cut that really bothered me. By cons, «God Complex» is completely insane (in the right way). It begins with a very industrial sound then joined by the electric instruments and finally completed by a very metal vocal. At first, I thought the voice was not proper for the genre, but finally I changed my mind.
The third song, «Matrix of Power» is totally different. It is much more hardcore than metal. They are still playing very lightly with electronic sounds, without it being too much.
The fourth one, «Address to the Nation» is again different as they sampled various portions of speeches thrown atop synthesized background music.
Now get ready for the assault. It is nearly as listening to a different band. «Trigger Terms» is a song that bears its name well. They triggered the drum at a hundred miles an hour. Percussions in this composition are much more present than in the others. It is in this kind of songs that we recognize their metal influence, nearly deathcore metal.
The sixth one is definitely my favorite. «Inevitable Disaster (Reactor)» is what is closest to what I know of Industrial Metal. In this song, we recognize very well the influences of the pioneers of this style, Ministry.
It is followed by «Message From the Advanced Intelligence», a moody interlude with a lot of synthetic and electronic sound. It is unfortunately too short. There were some interesting variations as if one had taped someone changing channels on a TV.
The more I get towards the end of the album, the more it switches from metal industrial to industrial metal. The songs have many more electronic sounds that accompany electrical instruments but it did nothing to reduce my interest. If we take the song «Monotheist» for example, the introduction is provided by electronics till the singer starts screaming followed by the electrical instruments. The drum turns into musical distortion that sounds like the wave of dubstep. Another song that gave me this impression is «Codex Alimentarius».
I do not have a lot of negative things to say about this album. There were a couple times I thought the voice did not fit well with the musical style. The other flaw is the length of some songs. I thought that some were much too short. A good thing is that there is fourteen songs on the album so it still gives a lot of music to enjoy. If you are a Metalhead seeking a different style, I advise you to discover that band. They have several different approach to metal which makes them a very interesting listening.
This is a group that is socially and politically engaged. We feel it by the titles of the songs and their musical aggressiveness. If you have enjoyed their music, go read the texts, if you did not understand the lyrics in screaming.
