J’ai été approché par un des membres du groupe AbouT:Blank afin de produire une critique de leur nouvel album. Il s’agit en fait du tout premier album de cette formation ayant vu le jour au printemps 2014. Pour faire une histoire courte, c’est le guitariste Francis Labadie qui m’a contacté pis le snoreau, il a profité du fait que je suis la petite nouvelle de la gang d’Ondes Chocs pour m’en passer une petite vite en douce. Je ne le savais pas que c’est lui le webmaster derrière Ondes Chocs… C’est Lex qui me l’a gentiment souligné question que je n’ai pas l’air d’une téteuse et surtout question que je précise que ce que vous avez lire a été écrit avant que je sache que Francis est dans Ondes Chocs et maintenant que je le sais, je suis bien contente de savoir qu’il fait partie de l’équipe d’Ondes Chocs.
AbouT:Blank est un groupe de deathmetal technique de Longueuil (QC). Le groupe est composé de musiciens possèdent un bagage musical d’environs 10 ans. Vous serez en mesure de constater l’étendue de leurs talents lors de votre écoute.
Le chanteur Yan Chatel a vraiment un vocal impressionnant, que ce soit dans les aigus ou dans les graves. J’ai vraiment apprécié écouter et réécouter les mélodies techniques des deux guitaristes Mario Lafleur et Francis Labadie. Ceux qui me connaissent savent que je n’entends pas les notes basses… Mais j’ai réussi à entendre certains passages interprétés par Marc Choquette le bassiste et j’ai réellement adoré. Peut-être que la basse aurait pu être un peu plus forte sur le mixage final… Le drum… Wow! On ressent que Vincent Joly connait et maitrise très bien son instrument, j’ai bien hâte de le voir performer sur scène.
J’ai écouté cet album à répétition depuis qu’ils me l’ont envoyé et je l’adore. L’album débute dans ta face, sans avertissement, avec «Axiomatically Psychosomatic», nous laissant entendre toute la brutalité dans laquelle nous serons plongés lors de notre écoute. La seconde pièce, «Mechanical Obscenity», nous entraine dans une ambiance de combat. Je suis persuadée que cette pièce saura provoquer des thrash mémorables lorsqu’ils se produiront en concert. «Ascetic Paradox», est réellement envoûtante, comme toutes les chansons de cet album d’ailleurs.
«Anthropomorphic Digestion» est ma chanson préférée avec son rythme qui me donne le goût de tout casser et je trouve que c’est la chanson qui met le plus en valeur les talents de tous les musiciens. Le solo de guitare… Magnifique! «Obscurantism and Eulogies» est la chanson qui se démarque le moins selon moi, mais elle est tout de même très bonne. Pour finir «Unforgotten Death» est un vrai chef-d’œuvre!
Je vous conseille de vous procurer cet album si vous êtes un amateur de deathmetal technique. Cette formation a beaucoup de potentiel selon moi et gagnerait à être connue davantage. AbouT:Blank se produira à Sherbrooke le 22 janvier au Murdoch, le 5 février à Ottawa au Café Dekcuf et à Montréal à L’Exit Bar-Spectacles (L’ancien Café Chaos) le 6 février.

I was approached by one of the members of the band AbouT:Blank to produce a review of their new album. This is actually their first EP since they formed in the spring of 2014. To make a long story short, the guitarist Francis Labadie contacted me but he took advantage of the fact that I am the new member from the gang of Ondes Chocs to pull a fast one on the sly. I did not know at this time that he is the webmaster behind Ondes Chocs. It is Lex who kindly pointed me this fact so I would not look like a teammate ass-licker and in order that I state that what you’re about to read was written before I knew that Francis is in Ondes Chocs and now that I know, I am glad that he is part of the Ondes Chocs‘ team.
AbouT:Blank is a group of technical deathmetal from Longueuil (South shore from Montreal) in the province of Quebec. The band consists of musicians that all have a musical background of about 10 years. You will be able to hear the extent of their talents here I promise you.
The singer Yan Chatel really has an impressive voice, either in the high or low range. I really enjoyed listening again and again to the melodies of the two technical guitarists Mario Lafleur and Francis Labadie. Those who know me know that I do not hear the low notes… but I managed to hear some passages interpreted by the bassist Marc Choquette and I really loved it. Maybe the bass could have been a little stronger in the final mix… The drum… WOW! One feels that Vincent Joly knows and masters very well his instrument. I can not wait to see them perform on stage.
I listened to this album repeatedly since they sent it to me and I love it. The album begins right in your face without warning with «Psychosomatic Axiomatically» letting loose all the brutality in which we are immersed throughout the album. The second song, «Mechanical Obscenity» leads us in a combat environment. I am convinced that this song will cause memorable thrash at live concert. «Ascetic Paradox» is really mesmerizing, like all the songs on this album in fact.
«Anthropomorphic Digestion» is my favorite song with this rhythm that makes me want to break everything around me and I think it is the song that best brings forward the talents of all the musicians. The guitar solo… Beautiful! « Obscurantism and Eulogies» is the song that stands out the least in my opinion, but it is still very good. Finally «Unforgotten Death» is a true masterpiece!
After reading all this, you figured out I suggest you get yourself this EP if you are a lover of technical deathmetal. This band has great potential and I believe thet they deserves to be known more. AbouT:Blank will be on stage January 22 at Le Murdoch in Sherbrooke, February 5th at Café Dekcuf in Ottawa and in Montreal at L’Exit Bar-Spectacles (Ex-Café Chaos) on February 6.
