Si vous cherchez un groupe qui vous enverra un bon vieux thrash Bay Area 1980’s style, le groupe indien de thrash formé en 2011, ARMAMENT, devrait vous faire plaisir avec sa première parution en carrière judicieusement intitulé «First Strike» qui prend la forme d’un EP de 4 pièces originales bonifié d’une reprise. Je tiens à souligner ici que je trouve cool que les quatre membres du groupe portent des pseudonymes comme il était plus fréquent à l’époque. Remarquez que je comprends aussi qu’après près de quarante ans de metal et des centaines de milliers de groupes, les noms cools sont tous pris et que Cronos, Mantas et Abaddon ou Snake, Piggy, Blacky et Away ne peuvent être réutilisés. Peu importe, voici donc War (Indranil Dasgupta) au vocal, Famine (Wrijul Das) à la guitare, Conquest (Sayan Ray) à la basse et Death (Subham Ghosh) à la batterie.
Dès les premières secondes de «Hammer of God», j’ai plongé tête première dans les riffs du Slayer de la vieille époque mais en même temps, il y a aussi un côté Kreator et Sodom pour lequel le vocal y est pour beaucoup. Cette impression se poursuit pas mal tout au long du EP avec même en bonus des solos à la sauce Kerry King.
Le EP se termine de façon à ce que nous constations sans équivoque où se trouve leur allégeance avec une bonne reprise de «Unstoppable force», un classique du groupe états-unien Agent Steel.
Bien que la musique d’ARMAMENT reste fidèle à ses influences et que je reconnaisse certains riffs ou mélodies vocales, ils trouvent tout de même le moyen d’amener des twists à certains moments donnés. «Gas Chamber» est pas mal celle qui m’a le plus accroché avec son côté plus crossover.
Donc, comme mentionné au tout début, si vous êtes à la recherche d’un groupe qui fait du bon thrash classique, ARMAMENT devrait vous faire headbanger à votre goût.

If you look for a group that will treat you with a good old 1980’s Bay Area thrash metal, the Indian band ARMAMENT, formed in 2011, should make you happy with its first career release aptly titled «First Strike» which takes the form of an EP of four original songs and a cover of Agent Steel. I want to say here that I think it is cool that the four band members have pseudonyms as it was more common at the time. Notice I also understand that after nearly forty years of metal and hundreds of thousands of groups, the coolest names are all taken and Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon or Snake, Piggy, Blacky and Away can not be reused. Regardless, I present to you War (Indranil Dasgupta) on vocals, Famine (Wrijul Das) on guitar, Conquest (Sayan Ray) on bass and Death (Subham Ghosh) on drums.
From the first seconds of «Hammer of God» , I dove headfirst into the Slayer riffs from the old era but at the same time, there is also a Kreator and Sodom sensation to which the voice is there for much. This impression continues throughout the EP with «Kerry King‘s style» solos as a bonus.
The EP ends so it is made clear where stands its allegiance with a good cover of «Unstoppable Force», a classic from American band Agent Steel. War can’t get the high pitch as Cyriis but does a pretty decent job.
Although the music does not evolve far away from many of its influences as I recognize some riffs or vocal melodies, ARMAMENT still finds a way to bring some twists in the songs to a certain points. «Gas Chamber» is the one I prefer because of its crossover vibe.
So, as mentioned at the beginning, if you want to discover a group that does good thrash metal, ARMAMENT should make you headbang to your liking with «First Strike».
