Au début 2013 j’étais tombé par hasard sur un split de As Oceans/Wings Denied et ces derniers m’avaient beaucoup impressionnés avec leur approche très mature à leur métal progressif et djenté.
Wings Denied de Washington D.C. revient à la charge cette semaine avec leur premier LP et il n’y a pas de politique à faire ici: un chant clean habile, des passages gras efficaces et une approche complexe à la composition. Joe Lester (Intronaut) et Nick Llerandi (Ever Forthright) y font des apparitions et le tout a été enregistré par Jamie King (BTBAM, The Human Abstract, Scale the Summit).
Je crois que ce qui est à retenir est l’approche professionnelle et technique que l’album nous offre. Ce début de biographie sur facebook en dit long:
WINGS DENIED became a cohesive unit in February 2012. Three months later, the band self-released the Awake EP and ran out of free Bandcamp downloads, being downloaded 200 times in less than 24 hours. After releasing their first EP, the band embarked on a 14-day East Coast tour, co-headlining with Canadian progressive trio The Isosceles Project. The Awake EP was well-received, and was called “truly progressive in a landscape of music where progressive is becoming a dirty word.” Other critics praised the band’s “organic sound” and “[ability] to stand out from the ocean of copycats.”
